This term has been very busy with students participating in many different activities. WELC students participated in the Westall Swimming Carnival along with the Westall Secondary college students this term. Many of our students participated in the swimming competitions and many students placed in the top three of their heats. A big congratulations to Sylvia who won a medal for her age-group in swimming!
Students also enjoyed an excursion to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat. Previously in classes students learnt about the gold rush in Victoria and this excursion allowed them to see the realities of life on the goldfields. After a long bus ride students went underground for a mine tour. They were introduced to a Chinese man and his story in trying to find gold with his brother. Later students also try it to find gold in the river using pans like miners did in the 1800s. Many of our students successfully found specks of gold and enjoyed keeping these in bottles to show their families later. Students also enjoyed exploring all the different shops at Sovereign Hill showing the different lifestyle back then.
Many WELC students are practicing performances for the Harmony Day Assembly which will be this Friday at 10:15 am. All families are welcome to attend this event if they want. We are also planning graduation for Friday 4th of April where twenty of our students will graduate and move on to mainstream school next term. We wish all these students the very best!
Holidays will start on the 5 April and last for two weeks. We encourage all students to spend some time on the holidays practicing their English by reading English books, watching English movies or talking to people in English. We wish all students and their families a very safe and happy holiday and look forward to seeing them again next term. Our first day next term will be 22 April.
Congratulations to our WELC girls’ basketball team for their fantastic win against the senior college girls with a close score of 8-6! Their determination and teamwork earned them a spot on the school team and represented Westall at GALA Day tournament this term.

Dear International Student Families,
As we wrap up the second half of Term 1, we are excited to share some of the wonderful moments and achievements of our international students.
Monthly Birthday Celebrations
This year, we have introduced a new tradition – celebrating our international students' birthdays every month! Each birthday student gets to invite two guests to share in the joy, with cake and lunch provided. It has been heartwarming to see our students come together to celebrate these special occasions.

Active Participation in School Activities
Our international students have been actively engaging in various school events both on and off campus. A special mention to Eva GVARAMIYA, who proudly represented our school at the Monash March Forward event on International Women’s Day. It was a fantastic opportunity for her to connect with other young leaders and she sets great example for our international student community.
At the Swimming Carnival, our students showcased their talent and enthusiasm, with Sylvia from WELC winning multiple awards.
Congratulations, Sylvia! Your hard work and dedication truly paid off.
Additionally, at the Senior Gala Day, our international students participated in futsal with great enthusiasm and team spirit. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and commitment to school sports.
