Message from

the Director of  Learning

Middle School

 Ms Michelle Collins

And just like that, our first term is coming to a close. On behalf of the Middle School, I would like to thank and congratulate all of the students, staff, and families for another fantastic term. It has been great to see our students consistently demonstrating our iCare values around the school and in the community.

We have lots of exciting events coming up in Term 2 including Wellbeing Day, Year 9 Future You Week, Year 10 Work Experience and lots more! We hope that students use the holiday break to get some rest and recharge their batteries! We look forward to seeing you back at school on Tuesday, April 22nd.

Year 10 Immunisations

Year 10 students were recently provided with the opportunity to receive their free meningococcal vaccine as part of the National Immunisation Program.

Meningococcal disease is caused by bacteria. Although meningococcal disease is uncommon, it can become very serious, very quickly. Adolescents are at increased risk of meningococcal disease and more likely to spread the disease to others. Death can occur in up to 10 per cent of cases. Occasionally, severe infection can also occur in the joints, throat, lungs or intestines.

If your child did not receive their immunisation at school, please find information below on where you can still get immunised, or visit your local doctor.

Year 10 Work Experience

Year 10 students are busy looking for their potential employers for their Work Experience placements in Term 2. Work Experience will run from Monday 30th June until Friday 4th July which is the last week of Term 2. Students have been given guidance on where to look for work placements and how to approach potential employers.

We encourage you to talk with your child and discuss where they might like to experience a workplace for the week. Once students have chosen a workplace, they need to return their completed ‘Work Experience Arrangement Form’ to secure their place. If you have any questions, please contact the Careers Coordinator.

Year 9 NAPLAN

We would like to congratulate our Year 9 students who recently took part in NAPLAN assessments. We are incredibly proud of our students who demonstrated resilience, determination, and a commitment to performing their best during the testing period. NAPLAN, the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy, provides valuable insights into our students’ progress and achievements in key areas of literacy and numeracy. It serves as a benchmark for academic growth and enables us to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement, guiding our ongoing efforts to support student learning and development. Results of NAPLAN will be forwarded to parents and families later in the school year.

Year 9 Morrisby Career Profiling

In Term 2, all Year 9 students will be completing a career profile assessment to identify their strengths and possible career pathways. The profiling questions match students with potential careers and pathways based on their abilities, interests, and personality profile. Students will then meet with a career consultant later in the year to discuss their results and their potential careers.

Parental/guardian consent is required for this assessment so please provide your consent for this assessment via the Compass event. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s YLC or the Careers Team.

Year 9/ 10 Lit Histories Excursion

Year 9 and 10 Lit Histories students recently visited the Immigration Museum in Melbourne to gain an understanding of the patterns of migration to Australia, as well as the challenges faced by migrants.

The excursion to the Immigration Museum was interesting. The museum had many different stories about people and their migration experiences to Australia, which I enjoyed reading. There were also some interesting and real artifacts on display, including old diaries and letters that were written by different migrants from different times. Overall, I enjoyed visiting the Immigration Museum and spending my time there with my friends.

Year 9 and 10 Forensic Science

The Year 9 and 10 Forensic Science students visited Quantum Victoria to take part in an immersive forensic investigation. Dressed in protective suits to prevent evidence contamination, they applied their skills in fingerprinting, hair analysis, blood typing, and other forensic techniques to determine the culprit. Their keen attention to detail and scientific reasoning were on full display as they worked through and solved the case. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to put their forensic knowledge into practice in a hands-on setting. Well done to our budding forensic experts for their enthusiasm and dedication!
