Assistant Principal (VM, 9/10) Report
Mr Travis Mcintosh
Dear Middle School Families,
As we close the chapter on Term 1, it’s been an eventful and action-packed few months here in the Middle School. We’ve seen lots of school spirit and energy, with many exciting events to celebrate!
One of the highlights of the term was our House Swimming Sports, a fantastic opportunity for students to show their competitive edge while also supporting their house teams. This event is not only about the chance to qualify for the Kingston District Swimming competition but also about fostering community spirit. It's great to see students coming together to cheer each other on and create lasting memories.
A big congratulations to all our Year 9 students who completed NAPLAN this term. NAPLAN provides valuable insights into literacy and numeracy development, assessing skills in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar, and punctuation), and numeracy. The results help guide our next steps in supporting students, whether it's providing additional challenges or offering extra support where needed. Here's how we use NAPLAN results:
Individual students and parents/carers can discuss progress with teachers.
Teachers use the results to identify areas for growth or extra support.
Schools use them to review teaching programs and set goals in literacy and numeracy.
As a school, we reflect on the effectiveness of the programs we offer.
At the end of the term, progress reports will be released, providing a clear snapshot of student performance across several key areas: effort, behaviour, use of class time, meeting deadlines, homework, and preparation. This is an excellent opportunity to reflect on achievements and identify areas for growth as we move into Term Two.
Looking ahead, Term 2 promises to be just as exciting! We have the Middle School Wellbeing Day, Parent-Teacher Conferences, House Cross Country, Year 10 Work Experience, and Year 9 Future You Week all to look forward to.
I want to wish everyone a safe and restful break, and I look forward to seeing our students return to school refreshed and ready for the challenges of Term 2.
Take care and enjoy the break!
Warm regards,
Mr Travis Mcintosh
