Numeracy 

During Term 3, students in Numeracy Groups have been learning about statistics and data. The Commonwealth Games provided a fantastic context for students to develop their skills in interpreting and analysing data. We kicked off the term by exploring which countries and sports were involved in the Games.

Students then learnt how to ask questions, conduct surveys, collect data and interpret tables. When learning about tally marks, students collected data from a sporting activity as it happened in front of them, providing an engaging and authentic way to practise recording information.

Students then learnt how to interpret and analyse data presented in graphs before working towards creating their own bar graphs to represent the data they had collected.

A key focus has been developing students' ability to ask and answer comparison questions, using mathematical language such as more than, less than and compared to. Students have also begun to interpret and analyse a range of other data representations, including line graphs and pictographs.

Through these experiences, students have been developing their confidence in using data to answer questions, identify patterns and make comparisons.
