SAINTS BOARDING
News from Brett Toombs
Director of Boarding
Term 4
Term 4 is relatively short, with only six week before the end of the academic year. Our students at both colleges finish on Friday 27 November. As always, our boarders will be at school until the final day of term. If, for a particularly good reason, an earlier departure is warranted, please contact both boarding and St Augustine’s and St Monica’s in advance of the leave request.
Exeat weekend
The exeat weekend is scheduled for the end of Week 4 on 30 October. Thank you to our families for working with the relevant heads of residences to organise a plan for your sons' and/or daughters' movements on this weekend. All residences will close at 4:30pm on the Friday and reopen at 4pm on Sunday 1 November. This exeat has no student-free day.
A reminder to all boarders and families, that students have until 8pm to return to residences on free and exeat weekends, and we ask boarders to be consistent with this time. If they wish to return Monday morning, the relevant head of residence must be advised in advance.
End of school for Year 12
Next week, our Year 12 boarders will complete their regular classes and begin preparing for external exams, which start on Monday 26 October. St Augustine’s will celebrate our seniors' graduation on Friday 23 October. St Monica’s College will enjoy this day on Thursday 19 November.
Mr Connell and Mrs Buschmann are working with our Year 12 boarders to confirm their movements during the exam period. If parents or carers have any information that may assist, please contact these staff members.
Our Year 12 boarders final Sunday night Mass
The boarding community celebrated the final Sunday Mass for our Year 12s last Sunday night. It was a moving and appropriate occasion for our 21 Year 12 boarders who will finish their time in the boarding community at the end of the year. At the Mass, two students, a girl and a boy, were awarded the Spirit of Chavoin and François awards. Congratulations to Chrissy Atkinson who was presented with the Chavoin Award for her outstanding contribution to boarding life, and Cadell Ryan was presented with the François Award for exemplifying the François spirit.
We congratulate our Year 12 boarders, and we thank them for their positive contribution and involvement in the boarding community during their time with us.
Leave requests
We support students submitting weekend leave and requesting special leave for a few hours during the week to spend time with family. We do ask, however, that special leave requests are submitted in advance rather than on the day the leave is needed. We understand that unexpected situations can occur, but our boarders also understand that at least 24 hours’ notice is required for leave.

Weekend outings
The first few outings of the term were popular with a trip to Port Douglas and bowling. These outings are relaxing and enjoyable days for the boarders who, in the warmer weather, enjoyed the swimming and relaxation. We look forward to another outing this weekend.
