Clay Creations Come to Life!

For the first time this year, the kiln in our Art Room has been fired up! We are extremely lucky to have access to such wonderful equipment at Karoo Primary School, allowing our students to experience the exciting process of transforming their clay creations into lasting artworks.

At the moment, the kiln temperature is slowly decreasing as we eagerly wait to see how our Year 1 jellyfish have fared during their first firing. The students are excitedly waiting for their artworks to cool before painting them and adding the beaded tentacles they have carefully created.

Our Year 3 and 4 students are also eagerly awaiting the firing of their Mati artworks. Once these have cooled, students will add glaze before a second firing, then finally assembling their pieces into beautiful wall hangings.

This week, our Foundation and Year 2 students have also completed their clay projects. Now comes the important part—waiting patiently for their creations to dry before they are fired in the kiln early next term! Foundation students have created patterned clay tiles, while our Year 2 students have designed bowls featuring patterns inspired by nature.

It has been wonderful to see students developing their clay skills, experimenting with different techniques and watching their ideas come to life in three dimensions. We can't wait to see the finished artworks!

🎶 Year 2 Recycled Instrument Investigation

Our Year 2 students are making wonderful connections between their classroom learning and Performing Arts! As part of their Integrated learning, students have been investigating recycled materials and exploring how these materials can be reused in creative ways.

In Performing Arts, students have been putting their knowledge into action by designing their own musical instruments using the recycled materials available to them. This week, they carefully planned and labelled their instrument designs, thinking about the materials they would need and how their instrument might produce sound.

Next week, students will work in small groups to create a musical piece using their recycled instruments. We can't wait to see how they combine their creativity, teamwork and musical ideas to bring their creations to life!

It has been fantastic to see students making meaningful connections between their learning across the classroom and Performing Arts. We can't wait to see what they come up with next week! 🎵
