From the Leadership Team

Thank you for a wonderful Term 2 at Modbury School P-6

As we wrap another term at Modbury School P-6, we wanted to thank all our hard working staff, our engaged learners and our fabulous community for a successful and settled term. We all have enjoyed working with your children, helping them to learn and grow in their academic and social learning this term. We wish you all a restful and good holiday break and look forward to a great Term 3.

Reading over the holidays

Reading is so important for our children to continue to practice over the school holidays. Here are some useful tips to help you listen to them read aloud to support their ongoing success in being a fluent reader:

Celebrating successful Mid-Year Transition for School and Preschool

We are delighted to share the success of our recent mid-year Preschool and Reception transition visits. Our learners have embraced their new environments with enthusiasm—showing great engagement, resilience, and happiness. We have been so impressed by the way our new students have settled in, interacting positively with their peers and staff, and thriving in their new settings.

We are incredibly proud of their adaptability and the confidence they have shown as they take these important next steps in their educational journeys. It is wonderful to see such a positive start for our newest learners.

We look forward to welcoming all our Preschool and Reception students as they join us in their Modbury School and Preschool uniforms next term. We can’t wait to see them continue to learn, grow, and shine as part of our school community!

First Aid Training in Schools

During Week 8 all of the students at Modbury School P-6 received basic first aid training from St John's Ambulance Service. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained valuable skills during the sessions. You can read more about their training and see some photos from the day on the 'Wellbeing' page.

Attendance Celebration

We are thrilled to share that our current Term-to-Date Attendance Rate is now 95.36%! Another increase from 94%! GO MODBURY!

Our school target is to consistently achieve 93% attendance, so this is a fantastic result and a wonderful reflection of our community's commitment to learning.

A huge congratulations and thank you to all our families for ensuring that our students are at school every day, ready to learn, connect and thrive – even on those cold, wet and wintry mornings! 🌧️❄️

Every day at school counts, and your support is helping our students make the most of every learning opportunity. We are incredibly proud of the dedication shown by our students and families and grateful for the strong partnership we share.

Well done, Modbury community! Let's keep up the amazing work! 💙💛

Pyjama Day

Our school was cozy and warm in Week 7, as we enjoyed 'Pyjama Day' for our PBL school-wide celebration. The students had been using their PBL tokens to vote between pyjamas or extra play, and the overwhelming favourite was pyjama day. It was great to see so many children and staff join in the fun, wearing their oodies, dressing gowns, tracksuits and pj's - and even better, it just happened to fall on one of the coldest days this year!

At our Week 9 assembly the students were asked to share a highlight from Term 2, and a clear winner was Pyjama Day, with many students naming this day as their highlight.

Wear Your Colours Day

Friday Week 9 was our 'Wear Your Colours' day. While we often hold this day in celebration of an upcoming Crows/Port showdown, and see many AFL colours on show, we also encourage children to wear the colours of any team they support, or play for- from any sport.

This could be international teams, national teams, state teams, local teams, or even their Modbury sport's day teams. We loved seeing all the different colours being represented - and with the FIFA World Cup happening, there were lots of soccer colours on show this year. We also enjoyed Crows and Port donuts as a special treat - Thank you to Pie Time for supporting us with our special donut order again this year.

Road Safety Excursion

Room 7 were able to visit the Road Safety Centre and enjoyed a fantastic excursion in much better weather conditions. The children had a great time riding bikes and learning all about keeping safe on and around roads, including important lessons in recognising signs, understanding signals, and following safe practices.

These activities are closely linked to the Health and Physical Education curriculum, where we focus on safety, responsible decision-making, and building vital skills for students to look after themselves and others. Learning experiences like this help our students grow in confidence and independence, setting strong foundations for lifelong safety.

We would like to let our school community know that Sarah Colwell has accepted a job opportunity with Adelaide University for Terms 3 and 4. We thank Sarah for her valued contributions in Room 9 this year and her dedication to our students and school. We wish Sarah every success in this exciting new adventure and hope to work with her again in the future.

The 2026 Children’s Book Week theme is ‘Symphony of Stories’. We are thrilled to announce that Book Week is just around the corner - Term 3 Week 5! This year’s enchanting theme, 'Symphony of Stories,' celebrates the magic, connection, and creativity that books bring to our lives. Throughout the week, students will immerse themselves in a kaleidoscope of reading adventures, participate in exciting activities, and discover how every story adds a unique note to our school’s special tune.

We encourage families to share in the excitement—enjoy stories together at home, talk about your favourite books, and help your child prepare for our much-anticipated Book Week Parade! Book Week at Modbury School P-6 a truly memorable symphony of reading, imagination, and fun.
