Principal's Report

I hope everyone had a wonderful break and has returned feeling refreshed. We have had an amazing start to Term 2, with so much already happening across both campuses.

Open Afternoons – See Learning in Action

We are looking forward to welcoming prospective families to our upcoming Open Afternoons. These sessions provide a wonderful opportunity to see learning in action, tour our classrooms and grounds, and meet our dedicated staff and students. If you know of any families considering our school, we encourage you to share this opportunity with them.

ANZAC Day Dawn Service

It was wonderful to see our students represent our school so beautifully at the ANZAC Day Dawn Service. They showed great respect and pride, and it was a special moment for our community. A special thank you to Ms Smulders and Julie for their hard work supporting students with the lanterns – they looked amazing. Thank you also to the staff who attended the service and assisted our students to ensure everything ran smoothly.

Curriculum Day – Berry Street Education Model

Last Friday, we held a Curriculum Day, with all staff participating in Day 3 of the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) professional learning. This training continues to build our whole-school approach to supporting student wellbeing and engagement. The focus of this session was on strengthening strategies to help students regulate, build positive relationships, and create safe and supportive learning environments. It was a valuable day of learning and reflection, and we are looking forward to continuing to embed these practices in our classrooms to support every student to thrive.

Mother’s Day Celebration

Our Mother’s Day morning and afternoon teas held today were a wonderful success. It was lovely to see so many families come along, enjoying time together and connecting with our school community. The scones were a highlight, and it was great to share such a special occasion with everyone.

A huge thank you also to our wonderful mums — Jodie, Gemma, Catherine and Alaina — for the organisation of our Mother’s Day Stalls yesterday. They were a huge success and we truly appreciate the time and effort that went into making it so special for our students and families.

Upcoming Events

Our Junior students have their exciting Photo Trail excursion on Tuesday at Maroondah Dam. Students will take part in nature-based activities, introductory orienteering and fun tabloid sports focused on teamwork, fitness and problem solving. Please check the Compass event if you haven’t already. Students should wear full school uniform and bring a packed lunch (they will change into their sport tops at school).

Next Friday, 15 May, our Grade 5/6 students will be attending the Change Makers excursion. This leadership and community-focused event gives students the opportunity to work collaboratively, explore local issues and develop ideas to create positive change. Please complete the Compass permission form if you have not already done so. This is a free event.

Swimming lessons will also take place in the final week of term from 22–26 June. These sessions are always a fantastic opportunity for students to build confidence and further develop their water safety and swimming skills. More information will be shared on Compass shortly.

Information about the Seniors Sovereign Hill Camp has also now been posted on Compass. Students will experience immersive goldfields learning through activities such as underground mine tours, gold rush experiences and the AURA Night Show. Families are encouraged to check Compass for further details, with payment plans available through the office if required.

School Disco Returns for 2026!

After the wonderful success of last year’s School Disco, we are excited to announce that it will be returning again this year on Friday, 19 June from 6:00pm – 7:30pm. The disco was such a fantastic community event, with students having a great time dancing, socialising and enjoying a fun night together. We are looking forward to another exciting evening for our students and families. More information will be shared on Compass soon.

More details will be shared soon.

Before and After School Supervision

Student safety at Millwarra Primary School is our highest priority, and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care. Part of this duty is ensuring parents/carers and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.

Before school: School grounds are supervised from 8:30am at the Millgrove Campus (near the canteen area), with supervision on Thursdays commencing at 8:45am. At the Warburton East Campus, supervision begins at 8:20am in the Breakfast Club room or spare classroom on Fridays.

After school: School grounds are supervised until 3:30pm at both campuses — near the canteen at the Millgrove Campus and at the front of the school at the Warburton East Campus.

Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they are attending a supervised extracurricular activity).

Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. sports practice).

Families are encouraged to contact me on (03) 5966 2518 for more information about the before and after school care facilities available to our school community or if you would like any further information about our student supervision arrangements.

School Tours

Enrolment enquiries and student tours across all year levels continue throughout Term 2. We warmly welcome families to come and see our school in action and learn more about the programs, opportunities and supportive learning environment at Millwarra Primary School. To arrange a tour, please contact the office by phone or email at a time that suits you. Information packs are also available for families wanting to find out more about our school.
