Wellbeing Report

There has been a lot happening at Millwarra Primary School this term, particularly in our Wellbeing area.

In Wellbeing lessons

Our Junior students have been exploring positive self-talk and relating this to different scenarios. They have been exploring calming strategies. These include 5 finger breathing, belly breathing, and the 5 senses grounding technique. Our Seniors have been learning about what helps us to “cope”. They have looked at coping strategies and skills they can implement and practise. We also went further in developing techniques for controlling anger. We discussed that it can be difficult to control anger and that it takes practice in situations before we become dysregulated. I loved the students' honesty and self-reflection during these discussions. It is a privilege learning alongside these amazing children.

SWPBS (School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support)

Millwarra Primary School has officially begun its journey as a SWPBS school. School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is an evidence-based framework designed to create safe, inclusive, and positive learning environments, improving student social, emotional, and academic outcomes. It uses a multi-tiered system to proactively teach expected behaviours, prevent issues, and use data to guide interventions across the whole school. We look forward to getting student, staff, and family input into our focus areas and decision-making along the way.

Year 5 Young Leaders Program

Last week, our Year 5 students began their leadership journey by participating in workshop 1 of 4. Our young leaders' team learnt so much about equity and equality through a variety of meaningful and interactive activities. It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm and willingness to learn. They are excited to begin their journey towards creating positive change within our school community.

Student School Council

Our Student School Council meetings have started with such positive energy and excitement. Students have been working hard collaboratively to develop group values and expectations. They have been creating a school scavenger hunt ready for Education Week. This will be a great opportunity to build cross-age friendships, problem-solving skills, and student leadership. We have also been looking at where and how our school values are displayed throughout our school. It was wonderful to get input from our SSC members. Our SSC representatives should be very proud of themselves. I look forward to seeing what other ideas and initiatives they have up their sleeves.
