Principal's Message
Welcome to the 2025 school year at MGSC! It has been an incredible start, filled with energy, enthusiasm, and a strong sense of community. As always, our school values of empowerment, inclusivity, creativity, and achievement are at the heart of everything we do, and it has been wonderful to see these values in action already.
Celebrating outstanding VCE results
I am absolutely thrilled to share the remarkable success of our 2024 VCE students. Our median study score was 32, highlighting the consistent excellence of our cohort. Their hard work and dedication have placed MGSC 6th in the state for government schools (excluding select entry schools), a phenomenal achievement! A special congratulations to the three students who achieved a perfect study score of 50 in Business Management, Legal Studies, and Dance. Our Dux, Mikayla Barwell, achieved an outstanding ATAR of 99.30. Additionally, 24% of our students achieved an ATAR of 90+ and 48% of students achieved an ATAR of 80+. These results are a testament to the dedication of our students and the exceptional support from our VCE teachers.
A warm and exciting start for Year 7 and Year 12 students
Our Year 12 students began their final year with an inspiring conference on 29 January . Guest speakers, including three of our past students, shared their study tips and personal experiences, sparking meaningful discussions and setting a strong foundation for the year ahead.
Meanwhile, our newest members of the MGSC family, the Year 7 students, were warmly welcomed into the school community. Their Orientation Program included a moving Welcome to Country ceremony led by Boonwurrung Traditional Owner, Steven Ulula Parker. They were joined by Year 12 students in the prelude with some engaging and entertaining fun. Watching them dance, laugh, and even attempt a few cartwheels was a beautiful reminder of the bonds that make MGSC such a special place.
Whole School Assembly – A Moment to Remember
On Friday 31 January, we held our first Whole School Assembly for the year. One of the most touching moments was when our Year 12 students formed a guard of honour for the Year 7s as they entered the assembly. The applause and cheers from our entire school community created an atmosphere of true unity and encouragement.
We were also privileged to hear from one of our top VCE scorers, Matilda Paradisis, who delivered an inspiring speech reflecting on her learning journey at MGSC. Her words resonated with students and staff alike, reinforcing the power of perseverance and passion for learning.
Another special guest was original 1955 student, Janice Hooker (nee Colwill) pictured with all the 2025 Year 7 students to launch our 70th anniversary celebrations.
As we embark on 2025, I look forward to seeing our students continue to grow, challenge themselves, and embrace all the wonderful opportunities ahead. Let's make this a year filled with achievement, creativity, empowerment, and inclusivity. Here's to another fantastic year at MGSC!
