Year Four

Dear Year Four Families
As we approach the end of Term Two, it has certainly been a busy time in our classrooms, especially with our swimming program! The students have continued to work hard, stay positive, and make great progress with their learning.
We are already looking forward to an exciting Term Three. We have some fantastic experiences ahead, including our excursion to ACMI and our school camp to Sovereign Hill. These opportunities will provide students with valuable learning experiences as well as memorable moments with their classmates.
Reading:
Year Four students have been actively developing their reading comprehension and communication skills through a range of engaging learning experiences this term. One focus area has been identifying facts and opinions in a variety of texts. Students have learned how to distinguish between statements that can be proven true and those that express personal beliefs or feelings. Through class discussions and reading activities, they have become more confident in analysing information and thinking critically about what they read.
Students have also been participating in Read and Retell activities to strengthen their comprehension skills. By reading texts, identifying key information, and retelling the main ideas in their own words, students have developed a deeper understanding of what they read. It is also supporting their writing development, particularly for narrative writing. Students are learning how to organise their ideas into clear, structured pieces while using strong vocabulary to make their stories more engaging and descriptive. They are developing confidence in building narratives with a clear beginning, middle, and end, and are improving their ability to communicate their ideas effectively.
Writing:
Year 4 students have been developing their persuasive writing skills by exploring the techniques advertisers use to influence and engage an audience. They have learned how to use persuasive strategies such as emotive language, strong slogans, rhetorical questions, and compelling reasons to make their messages more convincing. Students are now applying these skills and strategies to create their own advertisements, carefully considering their target audience and the purpose of their message. It has been wonderful to see the creativity, confidence, and persuasive language students are demonstrating as they design and present their advertisements.
Mathematics:
Year Four students have been continuing to focus on multiplication and division concepts while developing a range of strategies to solve problems confidently. They have explored how arrays can be used to represent multiplication and division, helping them visualise groups, rows, and columns and deepen their understanding of the relationship between the two operations. Students have also been using the RUCSAC problem-solving process to unpack and solve worded problems, identifying key information and selecting appropriate strategies to find solutions. It has been wonderful to see students applying the strategies we have been learning with increasing confidence and explaining their mathematical thinking clearly and effectively
Inquiry:
Year Four students have been applying their understanding of how media influences the way people think, feel, and make decisions by creating their own advertisements. Drawing on the knowledge and skills developed throughout the unit, students are using persuasive advertising techniques to capture attention and influence an audience. They are carefully considering their target audience, selecting appropriate media elements, and designing advertisements that communicate a clear message. This task allows students to demonstrate their understanding of how advertising and marketing work while encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and effective communication.
Reminders:
Student devices are to be brought to school fully charged at the start of each day.
Please check whether you have approved your child's photo permission or not. This is important for excursions and for on camp.
We wish you all a wonderful and relaxing break and look forward to seeing you fresh and ready for Term 3.
From the Year Four team.
