Year Three

As we come to the end of another busy and successful term, we would like to take this opportunity to thank families for their ongoing support. It has been wonderful to see students demonstrating curiosity, resilience, and a growing sense of independence in their learning. We are incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm they have shown across all areas of the curriculum.

Literacy

This term, our literacy learning centred on exploring non-fiction texts. Students investigated the features and purposes of informational texts, learning how authors organise information to help readers understand a topic. They identified text features such as headings, subheadings, diagrams, captions, glossaries, and labelled illustrations.

In writing, students applied their understanding by creating informative texts about school systems. Through research and discussion, they learned how different systems within a school work together to support learning and wellbeing. Students focused on organising information clearly, using factual language, and selecting relevant details to inform their readers.

Numeracy Focus

In mathematics, students developed their understanding of addition strategies. Rather than simply learning procedures, students explored how numbers can be represented and combined in different ways. They investigated patterns, made connections between strategies, and discussed their mathematical thinking with others.

Through open-ended tasks and collaborative discussions, students built confidence in choosing efficient strategies, explaining their reasoning, and recognising that there are often multiple ways to solve a problem. These experiences supported the development of flexible thinking and a deeper understanding of number relationships.

Inquiry Focus

Our Central dea that systems work together to support communities to function effectively. Students became researchers as they investigated a range of community systems, including emergency services, healthcare, transport, waste management, water services, and communication networks.

Through their inquiries, students explored the role each system plays, how people depend on these systems in their daily lives, and what might happen if a system were unavailable. They asked thoughtful questions, gathered information from a variety of sources, and shared their findings with their peers.

This learning helped students develop a deeper appreciation of the systems that help keep them safe, healthy, and connected.
