Year Two

The Year Two students have had a fabulous Term 2 with lots of learning! We look forward to seeing them in Term 3.

Reading:

All Year 2 classes enjoyed reading the novel Charlotte’s Web, focusing on a range of literacy strategies, including making inferences, developing comprehension skills, asking and answering questions, and making text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections.

During the final week of term, students watched the film adaptation of Charlotte’s Web. They then engaged in discussions comparing the novel and the movie, identifying similarities and differencesand how stories can be presented in different ways.

Maths:

Towards the end of the term, students completed their Addition and Subtraction unit. During the final weeks, the focus was on solving number sentences with missing numbers, such as:

__ + 12 = 30

Students used a variety of strategies, including manipulatives, number lines, and written working out, to solve these equations. They developed their understanding of the relationship between addition and subtraction and built confidence in applying their problem-solving skills to find unknown values.

Writing:

Developing creativity and imagination has been a key focus in Writing this term. Students have been encouraged to use their Writer’s Notebooks to generate ideas and develop their own voice through choice in their writing topics. This has helped them build confidence and express their unique ideas and experiences.

Students explored a range of text types, including narratives, recounts, and free writes. They also learned about the different purposes of writing through the P.I.E.  Persuade, Inform, and Entertain, helping them understand why authors write and how they engage their audience.

Inquiry - Matariki

As part of our Unit of Inquiry, students have been researching a range of First Nations peoples around the world. We focused on Matariki, where students had the opportunity to create kites for this celebration. Their kites include designs that tell each student’s story.

As a whole cohort, students performed the Matariki Macarena. It was a fantastic celebration of learning and togetherness.
