The Secret Sauce: Year 7s Rise to the Challenge

What a phenomenal term it has been for our Year 7 cohort in Food Technology! This term, we decided to turn up the heat, moving away from the basics to tackle recipes that are significantly more challenging and complex.
It has been an absolute joy to watch the students step up and demonstrate their evolving skills with dishes we’ve never introduced to Year 7 before. We celebrated International Women’s Day by baking and beautifully decorating banana muffins with a dusting of icing sugar, mastered the patience and technique required for crispy, golden spanakopita, and reached a major milestone by making fresh pasta from scratch paired with a rich Bolognese sauce.
These are sophisticated tasks usually reserved for older year levels, but this group proved they
were more than ready!! They showed us a level of maturity, technical skill, respect, commitment and pride in their work that has been truly inspiring to
witness.
The magic hasn’t just been happening at the kitchen bench, either. In our theory lessons, the students have shown an incredible level of attention, commitment, and respect. Their engagement and participation have made our classroom a vibrant place to learn the "why" behind the food we create.
Well done, Year 7! Your growth this term has been a recipe for success. I am so proud of what you have achieved so far, and I’m incredibly excited to see what new skills we can master together next term. Keep cooking and stay curious!
