This week in Numeracy, we have been learning about Fact Families, and the connection between Addition and Subtraction. Students created number sentences for their fact families, and were able to show all the ways that those numbers work together when adding and subtracting. We will continue to build our strategies on Addition and Subtraction this week.
We have also been working on our number fluency. Being fluent in number recalling and simple number facts allows for reduced cognitive load. Number Box has been a great hit, and demonstrates all the different ways in which numbers can be used, or shown in the world around us.

We have continued our work with The Gruffalo as our mentor text. This week we are looking at word choice, and focusing on time connectives and adjectives. Students were able to describe the character that Mouse is; clever, sneaky, and brave. The forest was not only deep and dark, it was also gloomy and mysterious.
We have been able to use this to build our stories, and help to paint the picture in the reader's mind.

Our Grade 3 students completed their first round of Naplan testing. They demonstrated resilience, and it was great to see them all engage and try their best.
We are setting up student logins for Decodable Readers Australia, where students have the opportunity to log in from a device at home, and access a range of readers. The best support that you can give your child is reading to them, and listening to them read. This is a great resource to further support. Whilst we understand that home lives are busy, there is no obligation to take part. This is just an extra resource if you wish to utilise.
If you would like some hard copy take home readers instead, please let us know so we can provide these.
Additionally, you are most welcome to be reading any books that you have, and love at home already.
