The Power of Daily Reviews at Langwarrin Park PS

Building Strong Readers and Learners from Foundation to Year 6

🔍 What Are Daily Reviews?

Daily Reviews are short, focused sessions at the start of lessons where students practise and strengthen what they have already learned. From Little Learners Love Literacy in the early years to novel studies in the upper years, every class uses this time to review key knowledge and skills, so learning becomes automatic and long-lasting.

💡 Why We Do It – The Science of Reading

Our teaching is guided by the Science of Reading and Science of Learning research. Daily Reviews help students to: - Strengthen memory and recall of essential skills- Make connections between past and new learning- Build fluency and confidence in reading, writing, and mathematics- Receive immediate feedback from their teacher

This evidence-based approach ensures learning moves from short-term to long-term memory.

✏️ Why We Use Whiteboards

You might hear students say, 'We just use whiteboards,' but these sessions are full of purposeful learning! Whiteboards allow for: - Every student to actively participate- Instant feedback and correction- A low-pressure way to practise and take risks- Fast-paced, engaging, and highly effective learning

📚 Across Our School

Daily Reviews are part of every classroom, every day — from phonics and spelling in Foundation to comprehension and deep analysis of novels in the upper years. This consistent approach builds a strong foundation of knowledge and confidence for all students.

📈 The Positive Impact

Our focus on explicit teaching and daily review has led to outstanding NAPLAN results across our school:- Writing: 88% of Year 3 and 80% of Year 5 students in strong and exceeding bands- Reading: 79% of Year 3 and Year 5 students in strong and exceeding bands- Numeracy: 76% of Year 3 and 72% of Year 5 students in strong and exceeding bandsThese achievements show the powerful impact of research-based teaching and the dedication of our staff and students.

❤️ In Summary

Daily Reviews are not about repetition; they’re about deep learning and lasting success. By revisiting and practising key concepts each day, students are building the solid foundations needed for lifelong learning.
