In the Classroom
and out and about!
On Friday, 31st October, our dedicated teachers focused on writing student reports and engaging in targeted professional development (PD) to strengthen teaching practices and support student learning outcomes. These behind-the-scenes efforts are essential in maintaining a high-quality, curriculum-aligned learning environment, ensuring our school continues to provide engaging, safe, and effective educational experiences for all students.
To show their appreciation, Paul Mercurio’s office made a special visit, delivering cupcakes to 27 schools in the area to celebrate our outstanding teachers and the extra effort they put in every day.
In addition, our staff came together in the staff room for a well-deserved break, enjoying a high tea with scones, jam, cream, and cupcakes. These moments are rare, as our teachers don’t often get the chance to all be together. It was a wonderful opportunity to pause, recharge, and reconnect with colleagues, celebrating not only the hard work that happens behind the scenes but also the strong sense of community among our staff.
It’s easy for the day-to-day dedication of teachers to go unseen — from planning lessons and writing reports to attending meetings and professional development sessions. These efforts form the backbone of our school community and deserve to be celebrated. Our teachers go above and beyond every single day, shaping the minds and hearts of our students with patience, creativity, and care.
We are incredibly grateful for the commitment, passion, and hard work of our teaching staff. Days like this remind us to stop, appreciate, and celebrate the remarkable people who make our school a place where learning and growth happen every day!

Our Grade 2 students enjoyed a creative activity in celebration of the Melbourne Cup. They designed and crafted their own fascinators, showcasing wonderful imagination and enthusiasm. Although the activity was just for fun as part of our “odd day” celebrations, the students took great pride in their creations. I was able to capture a photo of their colourful designs—each one a unique reflection of their creativity and joy.

On Thursday, 30th October, the Grade 1s set off bright and early to beat the traffic and begin their exciting adventure to the Melbourne Zoo. The sun was shining, spirits were high, and everyone was buzzing with excitement to see the incredible animals that awaited us!
Our first stop was the gorilla enclosure, where we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the mighty silverback enjoying his breakfast in the grass. The students were fascinated by his calm strength and curious behaviour.
From there, we wandered through the winding zoo paths, spotting all sorts of amazing creatures along the way — lemurs, giant tortoises, giraffes, and many more. The children loved learning new facts and sharing their favourite animals with their friends.
One of the biggest highlights of the day was visiting the big cats! The lions were lounging majestically in the sun, the tigers prowled gracefully through their enclosure, and the stunning snow leopard captured everyone’s attention with its beautiful spotted coat.
Although the butterfly enclosure was closed, that didn’t slow us down! We enjoyed some shade in the reptile house, where the children were amazed by the snakes, lizards, and turtles. Many students took time to read the information signs and observe how the reptiles moved and behaved.
This excursion also tied in perfectly with our current Grade 1 curriculum, where students have been learning all about animals, their habitats, and the ways they adapt to survive. Seeing these creatures up close helped bring our classroom learning to life in the most exciting way possible!
It was a wonderful day filled with learning, laughter, and lots of animal adventures — a truly memorable experience for our Grade 1 explorers!

Langwarrin Park Primary School is thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Owen, who recently returned home after representing Australia at the 2025 Quzhou Lanke Cup in China.
The Quzhou Lanke Cup is a prestigious international Weiqi (Go) tournament that brings together some of the most talented young players from around the world. Owen’s selection for this event is an extraordinary honour and a reflection of his dedication, focus, and passion for the game.
Weiqi, also known as Go, is a strategic board game that originated in China more than 2,500 years ago, making it one of the oldest board games still played today.
Throughout his journey, Owen demonstrated remarkable perseverance and sportsmanship, proudly representing both his country and our school community. While the final results of the matches are yet to be confirmed, his participation alone is a tremendous achievement that we are all very proud of.
Owen’s experience is a wonderful reminder of what can be accomplished through commitment and a love of learning. We look forward to hearing more about his time in China and sharing a photo of him in action during one of his Weiqi matches in an upcoming issue.
Congratulations, Owen — your Langwarrin Park family is so proud of you!

This week, our Year 6 students got creative (and a little bit colourful!) with a tie-dye activity as part of their end-of-year celebrations. The students rolled up their sleeves, experimented with patterns, and turned plain white shirts into bright, unique masterpieces!

Our Foundation students have been exploring the colourful world of artist Paul Klee! Using bold shapes, bright colours, and creative patterns, the students created their own masterpieces inspired by his unique style.
They loved experimenting with geometric designs and learning how artists use colour to express emotion. The results are absolutely stunning — a vibrant display of imagination and creativity from our youngest artists!
