Principal's Report

NEWSLETTER REPORT…TERM 4 WEEK 5

Schools are very busy places, which is a great thing. We are constantly working to improve our school. Here’s an outline of what is happening at the moment.

Building Resilience and Confidence in Our Students

At LPPS, we know that learning isn’t just about getting the right answer — it’s about developing the confidence to keep trying, even when things get tough. Through our Real Schools partnership, teachers continue to build their skills in strengthening relationships and supporting student resilience.

In classrooms, students are learning that mistakes and challenges are a natural part of growth. Resilience isn’t something you’re born with — it’s built through encouragement, practice, and trust.

Sometimes learning can feel a bit like standing at the edge of the nest, ready to fly. Just like a mother eagle gives her chick a gentle nudge when it’s time to soar, our teachers support students to step outside their comfort zones, try new things, and discover what they’re capable of.

We’re also helping students understand that being “special” isn’t about being perfect — it’s about being capable. When effort, persistence, and progress are valued over instant success, students develop genuine confidence and self-esteem.

Grounds and Facilities Update

We’re excited to share that work is about to begin on redeveloping our Flagpole area to give this space the recognition it deserves. In addition, a new electronic sliding door is being installed at the front office to improve access and safety.

Student Leadership

2025 Year 6 StudentsStaff are currently reviewing the rubrics used for determining the Year 6 Graduation Awards. It’s a complex but very fair process designed to recognise a range of student achievements. These awards will be announced at the Year 6 Graduation and then shared with the wider school community at assembly the following morning.

2026 Year 6 StudentsWe are in the final stages of the Year 6 Leadership selection process. This includes reviewing student applications, School Values rubrics, Compass entries (both positive and negative), and feedback from Student Voice sessions. Shortlisted students also take part in an interview with the principal team, using another scoring rubric to ensure consistency and fairness.Parents of successful applicants will be notified so they can attend the leadership assembly — but we’ll keep the specific roles a surprise until the big announcement!

2026 Year 5 PlayleadersWe’re also selecting our new Playleaders for 2026 — another important leadership opportunity. Playleaders help set up, run, and pack away lunchtime games for our junior students. They’ll receive training and ongoing support from a teacher mentor to help them succeed in their role.

Transitions and Class Planning

Our recent Foundation Transition sessions were a huge success, with many new in-zone families joining us. Teachers did a fantastic job helping our newest students feel welcome, while parents had the chance to meet the Principal Team, School Council and PFC Presidents, PSW Uniforms, Stir Crazy Kids (canteen), and TheirCare.

We continue to work closely with local secondary schools to ensure smooth transitions for our graduating students.

Class planning for 2026 is now underway. It’s a detailed process where we carefully consider student needs to create balanced classes. As we help students build resilience, it’s important to frame class placements as opportunities for growth and new connections. Learning to adapt and manage change positively is a lifelong skill — and we’ll be supporting our students every step of the way.

Digital Devices in 2026 and Beyond

You may have seen recent media reports about new Department policies for 2027 that will limit device use to 90 minutes a day. The Department will release more information next year, but for now, there are no changes to our 2026 BYOD program.Students who have purchased a device can continue to use it as usual, and we’ll maintain shared computer banks for classroom access.

PFC News and Community Involvement

Our Parents & Friends Club (PFC) AGM is coming up soon — a great chance to get involved! The PFC does an amazing job running events and raising funds for school projects beyond Department budgets. In 2026, funds raised will go toward refreshing and redeveloping some of our playground spaces, and we’d love your support. Many hands make light work!

Stay Connected

Please continue to check Compass for calendar updates and event information — it’s our main communication hub. And as always, if you’re ever unsure about anything, our friendly office team is happy to help.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we head into the final stretch of another big and exciting school year!

Kind regards,Deb HaddowPrincipal

We know life is busy, but there’s real power in community. We’re calling on our local legends to help with a few small projects — things we’d rather not outsource if we can keep it in the neighbourhood!

We’re currently looking for:

A licensed gas plumber for compliance checks

Carpenters for a fencing project

An air conditioning mechanic (for holiday servicing)

A landscaper for garden planning

Green thumbs for light weeding and pruning

Even an hour of your time makes a big difference. If you’re able to help or want more info, please contact the front office — Bluey, our Facilities Manager, will be in touch.

Let’s keep building a strong, connected community — together!
