Principal's Message

Dear Sunshine Heights Parents and Carers,
Week 8 is here, and the busy learning life of our school rolls along.
Reports
Teachers are finalising their assessment processes and entering data for school reports. Semester 1 reports will be available via Compass on Thursday 25th of June. In the last week of term, bookings will also be open for parent-teacher interviews being held on Tuesday, the 28th of July.
Toilet Block Update
Next week, on Monday, the builders will lay the concrete slab as the foundation for our new toilet block. A Compass post has been sent communicating changes to traffic and parking on Monday 15/06. The planned completion date for the toilet block is the 5th of October.
Excursions, Events and Experiences
As usual, there are so many wonderful experiences and events that fill out the school life at SHPS. Last week, the 5/6 students had their camp in Marysville, Grade 2 students attended Scienceworks, and next week we will have the Grade 4-6 Athletics Carnival.
Reconciliation Week
Last Week was Reconciliation week, and due to the 5/6 camp, we didn't hold a school assembly. At assembly this Friday, we chose to refocus on the theme of reconciliation. Aidan, one of the school leaders, spoke about the close connection the Wurundjeri People have with our local area, and all students contributed to a shared artwork in the gym inspired by the 2026 Reconciliation Artist Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung artist Otis Hope Carey. Mr Anthony took the opportunity to point out the small steps towards reconciliation that demonstrate our increasing awareness and respect for our First Nations Peoples. The weekly Acknowledgement of Country and the small change in the lyrics to our National Anthem in recent times are examples of symbolic but important steps to reconcile and address the assumptions made about our national story in the past.
Best wishes,
Sunny Heights Leadership Team
