This term, our Grade 2 students have been exploring Our Place in Space. To consolidate and celebrate our learning and deepen our understanding, students attended an excursion to Scienceworks Museum at the start of week 7. During the visit, students participated in A Solar System Adventure launching off Earth to visit one of our closest neighbouring planets Mars. We also took part in a guided tour of our night sky and saw so many different constellations.  It was a fantastic day out and we want to extend our warmest thanks to the parents that helped make the excursion so special for all our students.

Grade 2 Mathematicians, this fortnight, have been learning how to read and write 4 digit numbers with zero hundreds. We have been learning multiplication by skip counting by 5's, 10's, 2's, 3's and 4's and reading the position of objects on a map. Mathematic Battleship  has become a firm favourite in the classroom!

In Applied Literacy, we have been focusing on developing students' persuasive writing skills through exposure to a variety of engaging texts. Books such as The Lorax, The Giving Tree, Where the Forest Meets the Sea, and Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! have encouraged students to think critically, form opinions, and justify their ideas. Through these texts, students have been learning to use conjunctions to expand simple sentences into compound and complex sentences, helping them create more detailed and convincing persuasive pieces.

Grade 1 students have been using MAB blocks to practise regrouping in addition. When they collect 10 tens, they regroup them into 1 hundred flat to help build their understanding of place value.

Our Grade 1 students have been practising writing recounts by following the structure of an introduction, first, then, next, and finally. They worked hard to organise their ideas in the correct sequence and use punctuation correctly.  Students are becoming more confident in retelling events clearly and including important details in their writing.

Students worked with a partner to create a poster showing what cooperation looks like and sounds like in the classroom. Together, they discussed the importance of working as a team and shared ideas about positive behaviours that help everyone feel included and supported. Students identified examples of cooperative actions, such as taking turns, sharing materials, listening to others, and helping classmates.

They also explored the kind words and phrases that demonstrate cooperation, including encouraging others, using polite language, and respecting different opinions. This activity helped students develop their teamwork, communication, and social skills while building a shared understanding of how cooperation contributes to a positive learning environment.

The Grade 2 students  enjoyed sharing their writing, giving feedback and reflecting on their learning. Working together helps them build their confidence, improve their skills and celebrate their progress as young authors.  Daily Sounds Write practise is important for improving spelling and phonics skills

Students explored capacity in the sandpit as informal units of measurement. They compared different containers, counting how many scoops eachg one could hold and discussing which held more or less. The beautiful sunshine made for a fun learning experience.

Just a friendly reminder that students will need to bring their library bag or reading folder on their scheduled library day in order to borrow books from our wonderful school library. Please check your child's class timetable to find out when their library session takes place. Thank you for your support in helping students enjoy and care for their borrowed books.
