National Reconciliation Week

This week we are celebrating National Reconciliation Week at Preston Primary and across Australia.

The National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2026 theme, All in for Reconciliation, serves as a powerful call to action, urging all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation and actively drive change, rather than being passive spectators.

On Friday we are encouraging our students to wear a yellow accessory to show their support for National Reconciliation Week.

Education Week

Thank you to the huge number of families who were able to visit the school last Wednesday during Education Week. We certainly had lots of visitors, which was great!  The children really enjoy the time spent showing their family members their work and doing various activities together.

Mobile Phones

Last week I received an email from one of our parents relating to mobile phones and online platforms. I found her message very compelling and want to share it with our school community.

It was only ever a matter of time but there’s been talk of some students getting mobile phones and using smart phone platforms like kids’ messenger etc. I started a bit of a movement with ‘wait mate’ the pledge platform yesterday and was surprised to be the first parent from Preston Primary School to be on it. Since spreading the word there has been many more signed up with quite an overwhelming positive response which is great. I was wondering if we could add a notice in the school newsletter regarding ‘the pledge’ to encourage and empower all parents to avoid devices as long as possible. I realise it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I’m very passionate about this topic. I’d even love some further education for parents and students if possible. It’s such a slippery slope and even in grade 3 there’s more and more kids getting into these platforms. Have a look and I’d be interested to see what you think. https://www.waitmate.org.au/
