Year 7s supporting their own

Last week, the Heathmont College community came together in the most spirited way to cheer on one of our own – Will Dellar – as he competed at the State Cross Country Championships at Yarra Glen Racecourse. Will’s incredible effort, finishing 40th in the state, was met with cheers, claps, and a sea of Year 7 students proudly representing our college in full uniform and full voice.

In a celebration of school pride, all Year 7 classes were cancelled from Period 2 onwards so that students could attend the event. The cohort travelled together by bus, gathered in the grandstand, and supported Will with enthusiasm and encouragement throughout his race. It was a fantastic display of our core value of community.

Will's mum, Corinne added "I would like to thank all the students and teachers that went along to cheer will on last Thursday at his state cross country event.

When Will finished the race, I asked him how was it running with your year 7s cheering you on, Will replied it made me go faster !! "

After the race, the day continued with a shared BBQ lunch at McKenzie Reserve, where students relaxed, chatted, and reflected on the experience. The event not only recognised Will’s achievement but also brought the Year 7 cohort closer together, reminding us of the power of showing up for each other and celebrating one another's success.

Congratulations again to Will, and thank you to our amazing Year 7s for the positive energy, unity, and respect you demonstrated on the day. You made us proud!
