The Technologies domain has had an exciting and productive start to the term, with students across all year levels diving into hands-on learning in Food Technology, Design Technology, and Digital Technologies.

To begin the year, all Technologies classes were introduced to our new learning pathways and worked together to establish student-centred agreed norms for our specialist spaces. Rather than rules being imposed, students collaboratively discussed and decided how they would behave, work safely, and support one another in practical environments. This process has created a strong foundation for respectful, productive, and industry-style learning across workshops, kitchens, and digital labs.

Food Technology

Students in Food Technology have focused on building essential knowledge of food safety and hygiene, skills that underpin all future culinary learning. From there, classes have begun a range of engaging projects that connect food with culture, sustainability, and innovation.

Projects include a pizza design task exploring multicultural influences on food, a creative food truck design challenge, and investigations into reducing food waste. Students are rapidly developing practical skills, confidence, and independence in the kitchen. By Year 10, these foundations are evident as students prepare more complex dishes, including a Korean cold noodle dish, demonstrating both technical ability and cultural awareness.

Design Technology

Design students have embraced rapid prototyping, making full use of our new Bambu Lab 3D printers. Year 8 and Year 9 students are designing and producing sensory tools, moving from initial sketches to both analogue prototypes and functional FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) prints.

Students are building on their Maker Lab experience, developing skills in ideation, testing, and iteration. Senior students are working through the full design process, strengthening the analytical and production skills needed for VCE Product Design and Technologies. The workshops have been buzzing with creativity as students refine ideas and bring them to life through digital fabrication.

Digital Technologies

Our Digital Technologies program begins with a Digital Bootcamp designed to prepare students for success in technology-rich classrooms. Students explore core digital skills, problem-solving approaches, and safe, effective use of technology.

New elective subjects in Game Design and VEX Robotics have proven extremely popular. Students have already constructed base robots and begun learning programming fundamentals, with many eagerly anticipating future interschool competitions. At the senior level, students have commenced their journey in Applied Computing and Digital Systems, developing the foundations for VCE pathways and technology-focused careers.

The start of the term has showcased the breadth, creativity, and real-world relevance of Technologies at MSC. We look forward to seeing students continue to develop their skills, confidence, and innovative thinking as the year progresses.
