CRICKET ACADEMY

Meet Husain – Cricket Academy Coordinator
We’re thrilled to welcome Husain as our Cricket Academy Coordinator.
Husain brings a wealth of experience as a former professional cricketer, having played and coached in South Africa and the UK, as well as extensive experience leading elite cricket programs internationally and here in Melbourne.
He has worked as a Director of Cricket, high-performance coach and academy founder, designing and leading programs from grassroots through to elite youth pathways. Husain holds a CSA Level 3 Coaching Accreditation, postgraduate teaching qualifications, and specialist training in youth athletic development.
Most importantly, Husain is passionate about developing skilled, disciplined and well-rounded young people, using cricket as a platform to build strong habits, confidence and character — both on and off the field.
We’re excited to have Husain leading our Cricket Academy and supporting students to strive for excellence
The Mickleham Secondary College Cricket Academy has enjoyed a purposeful and energetic start to the term, with students developing their skills, knowledge and understanding of the game both practically and theoretically.
On the field, students have been completing regular training sessions at the Mickleham cricket nets located across from the College. These sessions have focused on technical skill development in batting, bowling and fielding, as well as game awareness, communication and teamwork. It has been fantastic to see students applying feedback, refining their techniques and building confidence in match scenarios.
In the classroom, Academy students have been exploring key elements of high performance sport, including goal setting, preparation, mindset and healthy habits that support athletic development. Understanding that performance is built on consistency and discipline remains a strong focus of the program.
An exciting highlight this term will be our visit to a Sheffield Shield match at Junction Oval. This experience will provide students with the opportunity to observe elite domestic cricket firsthand, analyse game tactics and see professional standards in action. Experiences like this help connect classroom learning and training sessions with the realities of high-level competition.
Students will also be undertaking umpiring training as part of their development. This is an important component of the Academy, as it deepens students’ understanding of the laws of the game, enhances decision-making skills, and builds leadership and communication capabilities. Developing knowledge of officiating strengthens their overall cricket IQ and opens additional pathways within the sport.
Looking ahead to Term 2, all Academy students will participate in sports performance testing conducted by Pioda. This testing will provide valuable baseline data on strength, speed and conditioning, allowing us to track progress across the year and support students in setting measurable performance goals.
The Cricket Academy continues to grow in strength and professionalism. We are proud of the commitment our students are demonstrating and look forward to an exciting year of development, opportunity and performance.
Go MSC Cricket!
