Music Notes

Kurt Abell, Head of Instrumental Music
On behalf of the Performing Arts Department, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all the staff, families and students who have continued to support the Performing Arts programs at Kilvington this year.
It has been a busy year, with so many incredible performances at our concerts, soirees, assemblies and other school events. It is a true testament to the dedication and commitment of so many of our students.
I wish you all a safe and restful Christmas, and look forward to creating many more musical experiences with our community in 2026 and beyond.
Years 2 and 3 String Program Concert
At the Years 2 and 3 Strings Concert on 18 November, it was fantastic to see just how much progress and confidence our students have built during their time learning their instruments.
Years 2 and 3 students, who have been receiving weekly tuition on violin, viola, cello, or double bass, showcased their skills to a supportive audience of families and teachers.
Congratulations to the students for their efforts this year, and thank you to our Strings Department staff for their guidance.
Year 5 Band Concert
The Year 5 Band Concert on 20 November brought together an appreciative audience to celebrate the musical journey of our Year 5 students as they learned their new instruments this year.
Along with performing as a full band, each instrument group presented one of their favourite pieces and shared an overview of their instrument for the Year 4 students in attendance. It was a fantastic opportunity for the Year 4s to get a sneak peek at what they will be learning next year.
Congratulations to the Year 5s on their fantastic work this year and thank you to our Band Department staff for their support and guidance.
Student achievement - Noah Ha
Congratulations to Noah Ha in Year 6 on receiving his AMEB Certificate of Performance with Honours on piano, the highest level of examination before the AMEB Diploma. Well done, Noah, on your dedication and hard work towards this outstanding achievement.
2026 Music tuition enrolments
Enrolments for Music and Speech and Drama lessons in 2026 are now open. Families are encouraged to enrol before the end of the year to ensure lessons start promptly in Term 1.
Students in the Year 5 Band Program and Years 2 to 3 String Program are encouraged to continue their music development next year. A reminder that enrolments now roll over automatically, so current students do not need to complete a new form.
