Young Volunteer Award
Year 5 student Thomas Volpe has been recognised on the State stage, winning the Young Volunteer Award at the 2025 Victorian Volunteering Awards after raising over $288,000 for the Kids with Cancer Foundation in just two years. At just ten years old, he stood alongside some of Victoria’s most inspiring young volunteers and made history as the youngest person ever to receive the award.
Starting with care packs to bring comfort to young patients, Thomas’ heartfelt initiative grew into a statewide fundraising effort. He says it’s a great cause that he genuinely believes in, and his creativity, determination and ability to inspire others have brought hope to countless families.
The Kilvington community proudly congratulates Thomas on this extraordinary achievement. His compassion, resilience and commitment to helping others reflect the very best of our values, and we look forward to celebrating this milestone with him.
Year 1 signature experience: Kilvington Lego model
Esther Linivker, Year 1 Classroom Teacher
On Friday 14 November, Year 1 welcomed families to view their impressive Lego model of Kilvington. Parents were delighted by the level of detail and creativity on display.
Students worked in small groups to build the School’s buildings and play spaces, bringing the layout to life with teamwork and imagination. Mr French added Mini Figures for extra character, and families later joined a building challenge to design something new for the Kilvington grounds.
- Alicia: 'I chose to build a trampoline because there’s nothing to bounce on at the moment.'
- Liam: 'I built a theatre for acting, and it even had a screen for movies!'
Willow: 'I made a swimming pool because we don’t have one and I think we should get one!'
Mr Collins was thoroughly impressed by the creativity, determination and problem-solving shown by every participant, making it a tough decision to choose a winner. The final prize went to Isaac Anderson, who designed a velodrome for the School and proudly took home the Lego trophy.
- Charlotte: 'My favourite part was having Mum at School for this event.'
- Alessandro: 'I loved making The HIVE because it’s such a cool building.'
- Moses: 'I enjoyed building a water tank with my dad.'
Thank you to all families who attended. The Lego Kilvington is currently on display at Junior School Reception. We kindly ask that you admire it without touching to help keep it safe.
Year 6 Leadership Reflection
Luca Charalambous and Mia Nation, Junior School Captains, Year 6
As we wrap up Year 6, we’ve been looking back on the moments that defined our final year in the Junior School. Our week in Canberra was a massive highlight, packed with learning, adventures and plenty of laughs, especially at Questacon.
We also loved our Buddy Program with the Preps, from reading together to joining in fun activities like our energetic Zumba session. Beyond the classroom, visits to the Immigration Museum and French Impressionist Day deepened our learning and inspired our creativity.
The Kidpreneur Expo was a proud milestone, giving us the chance to design and present our own business ideas. We also enjoyed a huge range of sporting events, including athletics and the always-colourful Colour Run.
Our Junior School production of Finding Nemo was another standout, with hours of rehearsals, sets and costumes coming together for a performance we’ll never forget. There were plenty of laughs along the way too, especially during the health sessions!
A recent Year 7 orientation has us excited for what’s ahead, and before we go, we want to thank Mr Pellegrino and Ms Soler for their support throughout the year. We’re also proud of the way we carried our leadership roles and hope we’ve left the Junior School in good hands.
We’re ready for the next chapter, but we’ll always remember the friendships, fun and learning that shaped our time in the Junior School at Kilvington.
