Library News

Fiona O'Rourke, Head of Library and Digital Resourcing

It has been a wonderfully busy and festive term in the Library, filled with reading, learning, and celebration.

Our students have embraced exciting reading challenges with enthusiasm, earning well-deserved rewards along the way. The Library has also been a hub of creativity and community spirit, from our spooky Halloween activities to meaningful moments for World Kindness Day.

As excitement builds for Christmas, students in Years 4 to 6 have been developing new skills, including learning how to use Bookie, our Library chatbot. This innovative tool supports reading choices and helps students explore the collection independently.

'Bookie’s recommendations led me to 'The Last Dragon on Mars', which I loved. I really like that Bookie shows me a wider range of books that I may enjoy.' Rayna Desai, Year 4

Congratulations to all our Years 5 to 8 students who took part in the Beanstack Reading Wrap-Up Challenge! Students set reading goals, submitted book reviews and completed buddy check-ins throughout the challenge.

We are pleased to announce Mrs Prysten’s Year 7 Girls English class as the winners, logging a whopping 9,938 minutes! The class will celebrate their achievement next week.

Special Awards were presented to Kieren Yen for the most consistent logging of minutes and the highest number of books logged. The Top Readers Award went to Louella Waddell, who read an impressive 2,755 minutes, with Lili Metz close behind at 2,707 minutes.

Students earned tickets for completing activities, which could be submitted for raffle prizes. Congratulations to all our prize draw winners! Please check KCEE News for the full list of individual winners.

As the festive season draws closer, find inspiration for book gifts in the Australian Kids' Reading Guide

I highly recommend this guide, filled with picture, fiction and nonfiction books. Considered Australia’s leading children’s book catalogue, each book is carefully hand-picked and reviewed by professional booksellers.
