Student Broadband Initiative extended
The School Student Broadband Initiative offers eligible families with school-aged students free NBN broadband internet at home. The initiative was due to end on 31 December 2025 but has been extended.
The initiative is capped at 30,000 services connected. Once this number is reached, no further applications to participate in the initiative will be accepted.
Households already connected through the initiative
Households already connected through the initiative, or with a voucher to do so
Families and carers currently connected to the NBN network through the initiative will have their connection automatically extended with their participating internet provider until Friday 30 June 2028.
Eligible families and carers who already have a voucher to take part in the initiative should activate their free service with a participating internet provider as soon as possible. This voucher will become invalid once the cap is reached.
For all other households
Please encourage families and carers who haven’t been assessed and may be eligible for the initiative to contact the NBN’s National Referral Centre for an assessment. If they are eligible, they will be sent a voucher to access free home internet until Friday 30 June 2028. However, this voucher must be activated before the 30,000 cap is reached.

Glen Eira Council School Crossing & Road Safety
Hello, all School Communities in the Glen Eira Municipality,
As we start a new school year, we thought it might be a good time to remind all parents and students about the parking and school crossings surrounding your busy school.
Glen Eira Council has created a short, animated video which was shared with you all last year. This video was created to be passed on to your school parents and community. It is a fabulous two and half minute video that explains parking signs, how the school crossing operates and aims to promote safety surrounding your schools. It encourages students to walk or ride to school too, even if only from a few blocks away, to help ease traffic congestion, improve healthy activity and to help the environment.
We would appreciate your support in distributing the video to your school community, whether it be at assembly, on your website, in your newsletter, wherever you see fit.

We welcome any questions or feedback.

Free Internet for Eligible Families:School Broadband Initiative (SSBI)
We are excited to share that the School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) is offering free home internet to eligible students until 31 December 2025. This initiative, led by the National Broadband Network (NBN) and supported by the Federal Government, aims to support students’ educational needs by narrowing the digital divide.
Families with school-aged children may qualify if they don’t already have an active NBN internet service at home. If eligible, they can access free internet through the NBN, which other household members can also use.
To find out more or check your eligibility, contact the National Referral Centre at 1800 954 610. Translation services are available, and no financial details are required.
For additional information, including the application process and participating internet providers, please visit the School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) website: https://www.schools.vic.gov.au/school-student-broadband-initiative-ssbi
