Principal's Chat
Term 1, Week 4 - Friday 21st February, 2025
Good afternoon families of OLSC.
Term 1 is well and truly underway and everyone has hit the ground the running. There are many great things happening around the school. We have slightly changed the structure to the newsletter and now each year level have their own separate page. This has made it much easier for staff to access the newsletter and add events and stories as prior to this we were limited to one writer / contributor at a time.
Exciting news - we are now on Instagram. I recommend that you all follow the school as an additional way to know what is going on at OLSC and share in the school news and student achievements. We will update weekly and share major events and some day to day reminders. All you need to do is search olscps
Last week at our first Whole School Mass for the year we got to meet Father An Hoang. Father An joined the St Andrew's Parish in January. He has been appointed as Assistant Priest to replace Father Anton who has moved to the parish in Doncaster.
Farewell Father Anton and welcome Father An to the parish and to Our Lady of the Southern Cross school community.
If you or any of your friends have a 4 year old at kinder it is almost time to enrol for Prep 2026. Our 2026 Enrolment information night will be held at school on Wednesday 26th February at 6:00pm. All of the St Andrew's parish primary schools conduct their information nights on this evening as we are zoned.
Our enrolments for the 2026 school year open on the 3rd of March. Enrolment Enquiry Forms (the first step in the process) are available on our website.
This week, on Tuesday morning, our junior families were invited to an information session about our new literacy program in Years Prep, 1 and 2. We chatted about Little Learners Love Literacy, what this looks like in the classroom, and what should happen at home when listening to your child read. Thank you to the parents who were able to join us for this session. If you weren't able to make it, please see the slideshow that was shared via Dojo and contact your child's teacher or leader if you have any questions.

Last Friday you all should have received a laminated card containing the major dates for 2025. There is a magnet attached to the back side of the form for this to be kept on your fridge. We initiated this last year and was very well received and appreciated by our families. Our aim is assist you all in planning for your family regarding major events. If you didn't get a Major Dates form for your fridge there are extras available at the office.
Please note that on the form that you received the March closure day was reported as Monday 7th March and is actually Friday 7th March.
Last Sunday our first Community Mass for 2025 was held in the Sports Centre. It was great to see so many members of our school community come together to celebrate the liturgy.
There were 285 people present at the mass and Father Albert was delighted with this turn out.
Please continue to pray for our new church. As we prepare for the construction this is a very exciting time for the parish of St Andrew's and the Manor Lakes Catholic community. The Prayer for the New Church is below.
Our P&F Committee have signed up to participate in the 2025 58 Squat Challenge.
