Wellbeing at OLSC

Healthy Lunchboxes

Nutritious lunchboxes fuel young people with the right energy so they can concentrate, learn, play and feel good throughout the day.

A balanced lunchbox should contain a mix of foods from different food groups to ensure your child gets all the essential nutrients.

Encourage your child to be involved in their own lunch preparation and discuss choices with them.

Aim for:

  • Protein
  • Whole Grains:
  • Fruits and Vegetables:
  • Healthy Fats

Brain Food

As you are aware our school timetable has two solid 2hr teaching blocks when the students are more alert and  a shorter afternoon block.

We suggest all students bring some 'brain' food to school each day. Brain food helps to sustain energy and focus for learning.

Brain food is usually brought to school in a small container & is a VERY healthy snack that the students can graze on whilst working.

Some examples of brain food include:

  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Bananas
  • Apple cut into bite sized pieces
  • Carrot, cucumber or celery sticks
  • Sultanas
  • Dried fruit

If you have any questions please contact your child's learning group teacher.

Staying Hydrated

Don’t forget to include a water bottle in your child’s lunchbox. Dehydration can lead to sluggishness and difficulty concentrating, so make sure they have enough water to drink throughout the day.

Wellbeing Hour

At OLSC, students in every learning group participate in a Wellbeing Hour every Monday from 12:30 to 1:30. This hour is dedicated to PBL and Respectful Relationships. We explicitly teach expectations from PBL aimed at supporting our students' personal growth and fostering positive relationships. For our Social Emotional Learning program we follow Respectful Relationships. Currently we are exploring Emotional Literacy where students identify and name the many emotions we feel throughout the day and the factors that cause each emotion. Students are identifying body language and how this helps us to recognise the emotions of others.

If you have any concerns please contact Sandy - shenderson@olscwyn.catholic.edu.au or Kiah - kmiles@olscwyn.catholic.edu.au Alternatively you can phone the school office.

Cheers
