Specialist Classes

Japanese

Students will begin to explore words for greeting each other and the teacher in Japanese. This includes the word used for teacher in Japanese. Students will actively engage in using Japanese throughout the lesson. This will include responding with a greeting during the marking of the roll and singing songs. Simple language games will develop understanding and recall of Japanese sounds and words. We will also begin to explore the Hiragana script and how it differs from the English alphabet.

Digital Technologies 

This term,  students are learning the basics of coding using the Sphero indi robots. They will use different coloured tiles to tell the robot where to go and what to do. The goal is for students to understand that robots follow instructions and to learn how to solve simple problems through hand on, screen-less coding solutions.

Visual Art

Students will begin to engage in Visual Arts by exploring the elements of line, shape and colour. The students will focus on the routines of the Art Space - moving around safely, using materials appropriately,  mark-making on the page and noticing how different materials leave different marks. As the term progresses, the students will start drawing themselves as self portraits, focusing on realistic representations of facial features and seeing examples of portraits well known artists have created of themselves and others.

Physical Education 

In Term 1, we will focus on learning Fundamental Movement Skills, Cooperation, Basic Tactics and Showing Safety in Physical Education. Students will participate in a range of activities that develop skills such as; running, jogging, balancing, throwing, catching and many more crucial actions and movements. Students will utilise these fundamental skills throughout their P.E. learning in primary school.
