SUCCESS STORIES

ELLIE ZALCMAN

Ellie Zalcman of Year 11 recently competed in the 2026 Oceania Weightlifting and Commonwealth Junior & Youth Championships, held in Apia, Samoa.

After a gruelling overnight journey with a turnback and new flight required, Ellie faced a very difficult event with only a 26-hour rest break before competing. This is not an ideal amount of time to prep, yet Ellie came through with flying colours to win her comp.

Ellie is now the titled U48kg Youth Oceania and Commonwealth champion! Ellie lifted early in the competition and stayed on to support others in her team.

She now goes into training for the Youth Olympics, being held in Africa, later this year.

Congratulations Ellie, we are very proud of your achievements.

JASMINE CHILCO-BURNS

In her own words below, Year 10 student Jasmine Chilco-Burns reports on her participation in the 3X3 Hustle Junior Basketball Championships, held in Bendigo last April.  Jas came home with the Grand Final Championship and the Most Valued Player title, a credit to her skill and tenacity on the court.  Congratulations on an outstanding result Jasmine.

During the April school holidays, I competed at the 3x3 Hustle Junior National Championships in Bendigo, where teams from around Australia including Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, and Western Australia took part. My team won four out of five pool games to qualify for the finals, then advanced through the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds to reach the grand final. We went on to win the championship against a great team from WA and I was honoured to be named the National Championship Grand Final MVP.
