Duke of Edinburgh Awards

Over the past four years, I have had the privilege of overseeing the growth of two students who have recently completed their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award – Sophie Pearce and Jonah Santo. 

The students received their certificates at Government House, where they had the opportunity to meet the Governor of Victoria, Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner. This honour was followed by morning tea and an open tour of Government House, making the occasion even more memorable.

Earning the Gold Award is a remarkable accomplishment that reflects perseverance, dedication, and a strong commitment to personal growth. Over an extended period, participants complete a series of challenging components, including voluntary service, skill development, physical recreation, adventurous journeys, and a residential project. Successfully completing these sections requires resilience, independence, and a clear sense of purpose.

Throughout their journey, both students demonstrated exceptional commitment to thier goal - consistently pushing beyond their comfort zones, contributing meaningfully to their communities, and embracing new challenges. Their efforts exemplify the values we strive to foster within Brunswick Secondary College: achievement, excellence, persistence, respect, responsibility, and teamwork. 

Earning the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award places Jonah and Sophie among a select group of young people worldwide who have completed every level of the Award (Bronze, Silver, and Gold). Their success is both inspiring to their peers and a testament to what can be achieved through hard work and determination.

Congratulations to Sophie and Jonah on this outstanding accomplishment. We look forward to seeing the continued impact you will make in the future.
