Scavenge!

Luke Mitchell
VCE-Vocational Major Coordinator
This term, Year 12 VCE Vocational Major students travelled to Melbourne’s CBD to participate in a Scavenger Hunt with students from Balwyn High School.
This excursion was organised through the VCE Vocational Major (VM) partnership between Brunswick Secondary College and Balwyn High School. It is one of several collaborative activities planned throughout the year to strengthen connections between students from both schools. These experiences provide valuable opportunities for students to work with new people, navigate unfamiliar environments, build positive relationships, and develop teamwork and communication skills. By stepping outside their usual routines, students are encouraged to broaden their horizons and gain confidence in a range of new situations, and by collaborating with another school we can share, introduce and trial new approaches to vocational learning activities.
For this Scavenger Hunt activity, students were divided into groups that were a mix of students from both schools. Each group were tasked with choosing a group leader, navigator, recorder and photographer. At the end of the Scavenger Hunt, all groups had done really well, all scoring over 100 points out of a possible 160.
Charles Denholm, Gianluca Pulcini and Thomas Wilkinson, along with their Balwyn High teammate, Saleh, were awarded First Place having earned 146 points.
Leon Hard, Techin Kaewthong, Abass Nur and Liam Robertson were awarded Second Place having earned 136 points.
I am incredibly proud of our VCE Vocational Major class. Their participation, engagement and enthusiasm on the day helped ensure very successful collaboration with Balwyn High School. Special thanks to Chris Triantos (BHS VCE-Vocational Major Coordinator) for his organisation, enthusiasm and support for this program.
The purpose of this excursion was to explore Melbourne’s CBD and take part in a scavenger hunt with students from Balwyn High School. It was designed to help both schools work together and achieve learning outcomes in a fun and interactive way.
We met at Federation Square, where students from Brunswick Secondary College and Balwyn High School were split into mixed groups before heading off around the city.
Throughout the day, we had to solve riddles as a team and complete different challenges. Some tasks included finding the names of the two statues overlooking the inside of Royal Arcade, while others were more creative, like pretending to be a model outside a jewellery store!
We had lunch at Melbourne Central before continuing to work together to complete the scavenger hunt activities. At the end of the day, everyone met back at Federation Square, where the winners were announced.
Our team ended up winning the scavenger hunt, and our prize was a box of Favourites chocolates. Overall, it was a really enjoyable day and a great opportunity to meet new people while exploring the city.
Charles Denholm, Gianluca Pulcini and Thomas Wilkinson.
