YEAR 8
Building Strong Connections

Head of Year 8
This week, we had our final year-level assembly before our Fitzroy Island camp in Week 7. Students were given last details (all of which can be found in the parent slip), and reminded of behavioural expectations as representatives of the College in a public place. A reminder that this is an electronic-free camp, and this includes mobile phones.
When students are not attending camp, they are required to attend school for an alternate learning program. Students will be completing classwork for all of their lessons, as well as attending a Guidance Counsellor presentation on respectful relationships, and participating in a sports session. These are compulsory days of school.
Thank you to the Year 8 students who volunteered their time to usher prospective families around our College at our Open Evening. Your leadership and pride was visible, and perfectly exemplifies our St Mary’s Guiding Principles of Community and Dialogue. I am so proud of our Year 8 students - what fantastic future leaders we have!
In preparing for written assignments, students have the opportunity to receive feedback on their work through our College drafting process. It is an expectation that students are submitting full drafts to maximise the feedback they can receive, and therefore, their opportunity to achieve a higher grade and work to their full potential. Yr. 8s are expected to be using their class time effectively, and working on assessments at home.

School fees and levies for Term 2 were issued via email on Wednesday, 6 May 2026. The due date for payment was Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
Please contact the Accounts Team to set up an approved payment plan if you were unable to pay in full by the due date. Thank you to those families that have paid in full or already have an approved payment plan.
For all enquiries, please contact us at smw.accounts@cns.catholic.edu.au.
Thank you,
Accounts Team

The Feedback Survey is an important opportunity to gather valuable insights that help inform and strengthen practices across both the College and wider system. Survey outcomes are also reported in broad terms as part of our annual reporting requirements to government. The survey link will be emailed to all parents/carers on 25 May 2026.
