Principal’s message.
Thank you to all members of our school community for your part in what was another busy, productive and positive term of progress at Elwood College. The much improved weather gives us all an opportune moment to stop, reflect on, and celebrate what was another successful school term.
One key highlight of the term was seeing the whole school and local community come together to celebrate our students’ successes in our school production, HONK! Jr. The shows were a testament to the time and effort put in by our students and led by Ms. Sarah-Kate Hanley. The Performing Arts were on show again through both our annual Talent Night and Battle of Bands, both showcasing our students’ impressive talents.
Our students got busy fundraising for a great cause through the World’s Greatest Shave and it was great to see students and staff alike sacrificing their locks and beards to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation. The student leaders and Ms. Natasha Koutsoukis organised external visitors and a bake sale to raise over $2000 - a great effort and congratulations to all involved.
On an academic front, Term 3 is always an exciting time. Our current Year 8-11 students have now all put in their 2027 subject selections and our Year 12 students have completed their content and experienced their first round of Year 12 Practice Exams in the last weeks of this term. Our mid-term Learning Conferences were a great opportunity for students, parents, carers and teachers to come together to celebrate student achievements and set clear aims and objectives to optimise learning for the remainder of 2026.
Term 3 also saw significant activity and progress with regard to our Careers and Pathways program. Ms. Doanvy Roberts has now met with all current Year 10, 11 and 12 students to provide them with personalised guidance as to what some of their post-school options may be and what may be required to help them achieve their aims. Our Year 9 students have completed their Morrisby interviews and many of our Year 10 students have completed their Work Experience placements, giving them valuable non-school working experiences to learn from and help guide future choices.
Beyond the classroom, our students have enjoyed a range of opportunities and experiences. Our International Camp travelled to Phillip Island, our Year 9s attended Camp Rumbug and our Northern Territory Camp departed on Wednesday for what is always an amazing experience. Students have also participated in interschool sport competitions and represented Elwood at the Model United Nations. Looking ahead to early Term 4, our France Cultural Tour is ready to go!
It was not just our students and staff making things happen in Term 3 - our parents and carers were very active too! This term saw our first ever Elwoodchella, along with our Father’s Day event, which helped raise over $10,000 for the school. It was wonderful to see this support put straight back into our school grounds, with plants purchased and planted during last weekend’s Working Bee. The courtyard between our Main Building and Science and Technology building has already had a refresh, and it’s looking great. It is great to have our parents and carers on board to help us live our motto - Together we Grow!
