Prep - Year 2 Updates

Prep
It has been a busy start to Term 4, with our fabulous Prep students settling back into classroom and school routines while embracing the challenge of their swimming lessons. The students have shown amazing resilience and flexibility as they navigated new learning experiences and routines. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow throughout these two weeks, both in the pool and as they developed independence with the getting-ready routines before and after swimming.
As we commence our final term, we look forward to a busy and exciting time ahead as the students explore their connections to family, traditions and cultural backgrounds through our topic, ‘Celebrating Differences’. They will learn about food and celebrations from different cultures and explore how these contribute to the rich and diverse multicultural community of Australia. The students will have the opportunity to share their learning with family and friends at our final Prep Exhibition of Learning in Week 9. We look forward to celebrating their learning and sharing their wonderful work with you.
Year 1
As we commence our final term of this school year, the Year Ones have quickly settled back into their established school routines, whilst adapting to new routines for the swimming lessons. In Writing, the students have enjoyed exploring persuasive texts, learning about opinions and providing reason to support their opinions. The students have particularly enjoyed forming their own opinions about the statements provided and comparing their views with their peers. In Mathematics, the students have been exploring the measurement of time. They have thoroughly enjoyed learning songs to help them remember the day of the weeks, months of the year and how many days in each month. We have also been looking at reading and drawing the time to the hour and half past, noticing how the hour hand and minute hand move at different speeds as time passes. We are looking forward to another fabulous term ahead packed with exciting activities.
Year 2
The Year Twos have made a wonderful start to Term 4, settling confidently into their learning and routines. I have been particularly impressed by their resilience and confidence as they adjust to our swimming program and follow the expected routines for swimming lessons. In Maths, we have begun our unit on fractions. Students have been learning to find halves, quarters and eighths by repeatedly halving a collection. We are now exploring how to identify halves and quarters of shapes and objects. During Little Learners Love Literacy, we have been learning about the suffixes -ful and -less and how adding these suffixes changes the meaning of a base word. In Writing, we have introduced our mentor text, Tiddler the Frog, which the students have thoroughly enjoyed. We will continue using this text to develop our writing skills, with a focus on persuasive writing. In Religion, we have begun exploring the liturgical calendar and the celebrations that mark important events in the life of Jesus. Students have discussed a range of celebrations and identified how they connect to our Catholic faith. I am looking forward to our Swimming Carnival this Friday and am excited for a busy, fun-filled final term together!
