Colour Week

Colour Week has been a Mt A tradition of many years, coinciding with a celebration of the Founder of the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception who commenced Mount Alvernia College in 1956. Elizabeth Hayes was a women of courage who held special devotion to St Francis, St Anthony & St Clare. Belle Prairie House and Villa Spada House have Elizabeth Hayes as their patron.

This year, our Liturgy & Outreach Captain Miranda and her peers chose the colour green to honour the work of the Children's Hospital Foundation. The inspiration came after attending Sony Camp in 2025 - a joint venture with Marist College Ashgrove & Mount Alvernia College - and understanding how important children's hospitals are for profoundly disabled children and their families. During Colour Week, students got involved in a range of activities, including wearing green hair ribbons, writing “When I Grow Up…” messages in chalk along the Cremorne Road entrance pathway, styling their hair in pigtails or plaits, and reflecting through homeroom letters to their younger selves. Our College Nurse Tanya spoke on assembly about her time working in the Children's Hospital and the vital work of this institution. The week ended with our students dressing like their 5-year-old selves for Flashback Friday! All funds raised from gold coin donations for free dress and lunch time sausage sizzle will be donated to the Children's Hospital Foundation.
