Years 7 & 8

Academy vs Simonds

The Year 7 Icebreaker Event brought together students from both the Academy of Mary Immaculate and Simonds Catholic College for an afternoon filled with teamwork, laughter, and new friendships.  Throughout the event, students participated in a range of fun and challenging activities designed to encourage communication and collaboration.

Some of the highlights included the Human Knot challenge and the Hoola Hoop Race, where students had to work together to solve problems and support one another.   Teams were also challenged to build the tallest tower possible using only newspaper, string and paper, testing both their creativity and teamwork skills.  Another activity required students to transport a marble a distance of 10 metres, using only five cardboard tubes, encouraging planning, cooperation and persistence.

While the afternoon began a little tentatively, it was wonderful to see students gradually grow in confidence and connection.  By the end of the event, students from both schools were enthusiastically working together, cheering each other on and forming new friendships.  The event was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the two schools and help students feel connected and supported as they continue their Year 7 journey.
