The Mercy Charism

Staff at Academy of Mary Immaculate recently participated in a Spirituality Day centred on deepening understanding of the Mercy charism and the enduring legacy of Catherine McAuley.  A charism is the unique spirit, mission and way of living out faith that shapes a religious community.  For the Sisters of Mercy, this charism is grounded in compassion, justice, hospitality and responding to the needs of others.

Throughout the day, staff explored the letters and leadership style of Catherine McAuley, gaining insight into her courage, vision and commitment to serving those most in need.  Staff also reflected on the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy, examining how these acts of compassion and service have evolved over time to continue responding to the changing needs of society while remaining faithful to the Mercy tradition.

A highlight of the day was the opportunity for staff to creatively engage with Catherine’s story and legacy through the creation of icons inspired by her life and mission.  The experience encouraged reflection on how the Mercy charism continues to guide and inspire our College community today, shaping the way we care for, support and educate one another.

Mothers' Day Mass

Our school community recently gathered for a beautiful Mothers' Day Mass, celebrating the women who guide, support and inspire us each day.  The evening was made especially meaningful through the stunning performances from our choir, whose singing created a reflective and joyful atmosphere throughout the liturgy.

A special highlight of the Mass was the involvement of mothers and daughters in the readings, symbolising the strong bonds of love, faith and connection shared across generations.  Students also shared heartfelt prayers they had written for their mums and mother figures, expressing gratitude for the care, encouragement and strength they provide in their lives.

It was a truly special intergenerational celebration that honoured the women who empower our students and shape our community with compassion, wisdom and love.
