Explain the purpose of this trip?

  • Advanced Youth Leadership Development Program delivered by the Major Events Team of Scouts Victoria.
  • 40 young people from all over Victoria.
  • Provides participants with hands-on experience in leading complex, large scale projects.

Where did you travel to exactly and how long were you there for?

  • Traveled through Switzerland, Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Italy, engaging in a broad range of cultural, scouting, hiking, and high-adventure activities.
  • Took place from the 4th-26th of July.

What were your favourite things about the trip?

  • My favorite country was Switzerland because of the views that you usually see on a wallpaper on your phone and I had the opportunity to see with my own eyes. I really enjoyed the overnight 40km hike over a 2,800m mountain where I got to hike over a glacier.
  • I also really enjoyed the different types of cuisines in all the different countries we visited.

What did you learn whilst on this trip?

  • Learned about all aspects of the planning and delivery of this trip.
  • Conducted research, developed budgets, managed logistics, negotiated bookings, and coordinated group travel.
  • Built global perspective, cultural understanding, resilience, and interpersonal leadership skills.
  • This international leadership experience equipped participants with a wide-rage of transferable skills that extend far beyond the classroom learning including communication, decision-making, under pressure, teamwork, risk assessment and accountability.

What would you say to somebody interested in joining the Scouts but who may be unsure?

I would encourage other young people to join Scouts as it has helped shape who I am today, taught me valuable life lessons, and without scouts I wouldn't have been able to attend these amazing camps and meet so many people all across the world.
