Community Corner

On 23 August, Year 5 student Alice Lebner and her family led an incredible fundraiser at the Cobram Football Netball Club to support and raise awareness for the The Type1 Foundation. This idea to coordinate a local fundraiser came about following Alice's diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes earlier this year.
Determined to make a real difference, the Lebner's (with the support of Cobram FNC, Congupna FNC and the Type 1 Foundation) rallied our community together for what turned out to be an incredibly successful day of generosity, awareness and support of families living with Type 1 Diabetes.
Incredibly, over $10,000 was raised for the Type 1 Foundation, an amazing demonstration of community spirit and goodwill. Alice and her family should be incredibly proud of not only the sum of money that was raised, but also the awareness this event generated about potential warning signs of Type 1 Diabetes and the complex challenges associated with living and managing this condition.
A huge well done to the Lebner family for your amazing efforts in bringing this event to life!
Vietnam Veterans Day
As part of their Modern History studies on the Causes, Course and Consequences of the Cold War — with a focus on the Vietnam War — our Year 11 students attended a commemorative service at the Cobram War Memorial on Monday 18 August.
This service on Vietnam Veterans' Day paid tribute to the Australian servicemen and women who served in the Vietnam conflict, as well as their families. As one veteran reflected, life after Vietnam has been a journey walked together by veterans and their loved ones.
For many of the students in attendance, a highlight of the moving service was the flyover of a helicopter, a sound and sight deeply symbolic of the war. Lacey Eddy described the moment as “nearly moving me to tears.”
We were proud to see Year 12 students Lewis Brown perform The Last Post and Abigail Brooker read A Soldier’s Message which made the service extra special.
Lest we forget.
Year 7 Students Collect Prizes at Cobram Lions Art Show
Two of our talented Year 7 students have been recognised for their outstanding creativity at the recent Cobram Lions Art Show held on 16 August.
Bella Broderick was awarded the overall prize in the 10–14 years category, taking out the major $250 award with her impressive piece. Her work was selected as the best across all entries in the three sections available for this age group!
Meanwhile, Angelina McKay claimed first place in the Tourism Poster section, with her artwork also receiving the People’s Choice award — a fantastic double achievement!
Congratulations to both students on your well-deserved success.
