Teaching and Learning in Practice

Year 3 / 4 Science Learning

This term, our Year 3 and 4 students have begun exploring the states of matter. They have been busy sorting a variety of physical samples into solids, liquids, and gases, learning to identify and describe each state by its unique properties. These unique properties are discussed on how they apply to the real world.

Students have also investigated the particle arrangements in solids, liquids, and gases, helping them understand how matter behaves at a microscopic level.

Taking their learning further, students will soon explore the observable properties of each state of matter; such as can it be weighed, occupies space, fixed shape, compressibility, and fixed volume.

This will be investigated through a series of engaging, hands-on tests designed to highlight the unique behaviours of solids, liquids, and gases.
