Term 3 has been flying by, with a range of events adding colour to our weeks!

Foundation Commonwealth Games

This term, our STEAM unit has been centred around the Commonwealth Games, giving the Foundation students the opportunity to explore sport, countries, data, design and creativity through a range of engaging activities. Students watched the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony, read Koala Lou, monitored Australia’s medal count and completed a medal tally. They also designed flags representing their chosen Commonwealth country and created athlete profiles for imaginary athletes.

To put their learning into action, the students participated in their very own Foundation Commonwealth Games! They dressed in the colours of their chosen Commonwealth country and rotated through a variety of sporting stations manned by our Year 6 Sport Captains, including soccer, hurdles, relays, long jump, basketball, hockey and netball. It was wonderful to see the students demonstrating teamwork, persistence, sportsmanship and enthusiasm as they cheered each other on and celebrated their achievements!

Bullying No Way Week

The Foundation students, along with the rest of the school, celebrated Bullying No Way week, learning about the importance of kindness, inclusion, and standing up for others. We read the story 'One' by Kathryn Otoshi, which sparked class discussions on how kindness looks like, sounds like, and feels like.

The Foundation students enjoyed participating in the daily activities focused on kindness, including writing chalk messages of kindness and wearing a pop of purple on Friday.

Book Week

The Foundation students had a wonderful time celebrating Book Week! Throughout the week, they enjoyed a range of exciting activities that helped foster their love of books and reading. They made predictions about what their teacher would dress up as, enjoyed watching the Book Week performance, and wrote book reviews about some of their favourite stories. The week finished with our much-anticipated Book Parade, where students proudly dressed up as their favourite book characters!
