Die kleine deutsche Bücherei

Coinciding with Book Week, we are excited to launch 'die kleine deutsche Bücherei' (the little German library), a new collection of German story books for students to enjoy at the library. Titles include beloved picture books such as Eric Carle's 'Die kleine Raupe Nimmersatt' (The Hungry Caterpillar) and 'Der Künstler und das blaue Pferd' (The Artist and the Blue Horse) through to classics such as Grimms Märchen (The Brothers Grimm fairytales) in a range of formats for readers of different levels. 

Reading in language is an effective and enjoyable way for students to build their language skills beyond the classroom, supporting language acquisition, proficiency and fluency. 

Located within the library, the books are available for all students to enjoy during their weekly library time and lunchtime library club. Further titles to come and donations are most welcome!

Lily Evans recommends: Die Schule der Magischen Tiere (by Margit Auer)

I love 'die magische Tiere' series. The stories are interesting and exciting. Each one is an adventure where the students have to solve a problem with the help of magical talking animals.  

Sam de Neef recommends: Lustiges Taschenbuch

This is a great book filled with action and humour, a really fun read. If you enjoy mysteries and sitting on the edge of your seat the whole way through the book, then this is the book for you. Lustiges Taschenbuch is an amazing German read.

DerDieDas Bücherwald community library 

Those looking to borrow and read more German books outside of school might like to visit the DerDieDas Bücherwald, a volunteer-run German community library in Beaumaris, with over 9,000 items including a huge range of children's books. The Bücherwald Library operates the first Saturday of every month from 2pm to 4pm. More information here.
