Year 6
Bullying No Way
Year 6 students took part in Bullying No Way Week, with a focus on building respectful relationships and creating a school community where everyone feels safe, valued and included. Students explored the importance of being an upstander rather than a bystander, making responsible choices and recognising the impact our words and actions can have on others.
In Week 6 of Term 3, students celebrated ‘Bullying No Way’ Week. It is when they come together to help end bullying across schools. Bullying means causing physical or mental harm to somebody multiple times. Some students made posters and put them up around the school. The students had a silly sock day on the 17th of August where they wore silly socks to school. On the 21st of August, every student wore a touch of purple to school to celebrate no bullying.
Everybody had lots of fun and enjoyed the week!

Book Week
Book Week Fun! Year 6 also embraced the fun of Book Week, bringing some much-loved characters to life for our Book Week Character Dress-Up Parade. From heroes and villains to funny, mysterious and imaginative characters, it was wonderful to see the creativity on display and celebrate our shared love of books and reading!
We look forward to welcoming author Amelia Mellor next week, who will share with us her techniques for story endings.
This week we have Book Week. Kids dressed up as their favourite book characters. Some characters we had were Alvin and the Chipmunks, the Hungry Caterpillar, sports players and Little Miss Characters. There was a book fair where you could buy books, posters and pens. All of the students had a lot of fun choosing their costumes. The most creative costume got a prize! And we spent the past 6 weeks reading the best books! We all had to vote on our favourite book, and whoever chose the book that won, got a prize!
All students had a blast doing these fun activities and can't wait till next year!

Hands-On Maths!
There has been plenty of hands-on learning in Year 6 Mathematics!
Students explored ratio using cordial and water, experimenting with different mixtures and comparing the strength of their concoctions.
Our Space Inquiry made its way into Maths too, with students investigating measurement and gravity by comparing how high they could jump and how those jumps would measure up on different planets in our Solar System.
We have also been putting our understanding of probability into action through board game design. Students created and tested their own games, considering chance, possible outcomes and whether their games were truly fair.
Lots of experimenting, testing, calculating and mathematical thinking in action!
The Maths Show
All the Year 5s and 6s had an incursion for the mathematician show. Our host, Louisa, taught us fun math tricks and interesting discoveries. Elise from 6A was picked to memorise the digits of PI. She had memorised 48 digits and received a PI keychain for her memory. There were also many other participants in fun games such as, heads or tails, 2 fascinating math tricks and an acting scene.
Everyone had such a great time and learnt a lot of things about math in a fun way. The host Louisa was very comedic and made the whole incursion exciting and interesting. We are very grateful she got to come in and teach us her ways of math that most of the Year 5s and 6s will be using now.

Exploring Literature – From Poetry to Dystopia
Year 6 students have been immersing themselves in poetry through the Red Room Poetry, Sounds of Country learning resource. Through listening, observing, experimenting with language and exploring different poetic forms and techniques, students are gathering inspiration before creating poetry of their own. The program encourages students to listen, reflect, create and share, while exploring connections between poetry, Country, sound and the world around us.
Stay tuned! Our Year 6 poets are busy experimenting, creating and finding their poetic voices. We look forward to sharing some of their finished pieces with you very soon.
Alongside our poetry work, some students have been undertaking a novel study of The Giver by Lois Lowry, exploring the dystopian genre and a world where everything appears perfectly controlled… until it isn’t! Students have been discussing ideas around freedom, choice, memory and individuality, and considering what the author wants us to question about Jonas’s world.
Last term, historical fiction had us looking back into the past. This term, dystopian fiction has us questioning what the future could look like. And after finishing The Giver, we were left with so many questions!
SunSmart Hats!
With September just around the corner, it’s time to find those SunSmart hats and have them ready to go!
From 1st September, all students are required to wear their school SunSmart hat whenever they are outdoors, including during recess, lunchtime and PE/Sport sessions. We also encourage students to wear their hats when travelling to and from school.
Please make sure all hats are clearly labelled with your child’s name so they can easily find their way back to their owner.
