Term 4, Week 2
Dear Grade 3 & 4 Families,
We can’t believe we are already heading into the final term of the year!
Our Grade 3 & 4 students have grown so much socially, academically and personally throughout the year, and it has been wonderful to watch their confidence, independence and skills continue to develop. We are extremely proud of their hard work, effort and the way they continue to support one another as learners.
Let’s have a look at what the students will be learning this term:
In English, we will begin the term by exploring a new text type- Explanation texts. In Reading, students will learn about the purpose, structure and language features of explanations and explore how authors use words, images and visual features to clearly explain how or why something happens. Students will then revisit narrative and persuasive texts, building on their existing knowledge and developing their ability to identify how authors structure their texts and use language to engage and influence their readers. In Writing, students will have opportunities to create their own explanations, narratives and persuasive texts, developing their ideas, vocabulary, sentence structure and use of language features. Students will also be completing their Writer’s Gifts, where they can celebrate their growth as writers and showcase some of their favourite writing from throughout the year. We look forward to seeing plenty of creativity, imagination and thoughtful ideas throughout their writing this term!
In Maths, we will continue our Measurement unit, focusing on mass, capacity and perimeter, before moving into area and exploring how we can measure and compare the space covered by different shapes. We will then move into Multiplicative Thinking, with a particular focus on division and developing efficient strategies for solving mathematical problems. Students will then explore angles, learning to identify, compare and describe different angles. Our Space unit will follow, with a focus on 2D and 3D shapes, their features and properties. Finally, we will explore Probability, investigating chance and the likelihood of different events occurring. There is certainly lots of exciting mathematical learning ahead!
Our Inquiry topic is ‘It’s in the Bag!’ This term, students will explore the important question of how we can make more sustainable choices in our everyday lives. We will investigate sustainability, recycling and the impact our choices can have on the environment. Students will have the opportunity to put their learning into action by designing and creating their very own reusable bag using recyclable and repurposed materials. We are looking forward to seeing the students' creativity as they turn everyday materials into something useful and sustainable!
It is going to be a busy and exciting final term, and we look forward to celebrating all that our Grade 3 & 4 students achieve as they finish the year!
