Music Notes

Kurt Abell, Head of Instrumental Music

The Performing Arts Department is well and truly into the swing of things for 2025, with preparations well underway for our Jazz Cabaret Evening. Congratulations to all of the students who have auditioned during the past week. It was certainly a difficult decision for the Music staff to make the selections for the event.

Jazz Cabaret Evening - 27 March

On Thursday 27 March, Years 9 to 12 Music students will be participating in our Jazz Cabaret Evening. Held at the Glen Eira Town Hall, they will entertain you for the evening with an exciting array of jazz and blues music.

Our Years 5 to 8 students who are involved in ensembles such as orchestra, concert band or senior choirs will also be participating as a part of those ensembles.

It's time to start organising your tables with friends and family. BYO food and drinks while enjoying an evening full of incredible music!

DANCEPERFORMANCE AT THE JAZZ CABARET EVENING

Vicky Tian and Sienna Katotas, Dance Captains

This year, the Kilvington Dance Team will perform a spectacular dance at the Jazz Cabaret Evening. We will showcase two different jazz styles, and dance to the songs 'Americano' by Lady Gaga and 'Puttin’ on the Ritz' by Robbie Williams.

The Dance Team has been working hard on this new routine and can’t wait to share our hard work with the audience. We look forward to seeing you there!

PARENT HELPERS AND SMALL PRIZE DONATIONS FOR RAFFLES

If parents are available to help on the night, and/or can donate prizes/vouchers for the raffles, please contact Music Reception at music.admin@kilvington.vic.edu.au.

Your assistance would be most appreciated.

Welcome to Mr Benjamin Singh - Clarinet and Saxophone Teacher

We welcome Ben Singh, Clarinet and Saxophone teacher, to Kilvington. Ben is a versatile saxophonist, trained in both Classical and Jazz saxophone at Melbourne University under the guidance of renowned educators John Barrett and Barry Cockcroft.

A skilled soloist and band performer, Ben has earned recognition for his unique DJ Sax performances, blending live saxophone with electronic music. With extensive teaching experience, he has taught Woodwind, Composition, and Improvisation at Melbourne Grammar.

Outside of music, Ben enjoys practising Ju-Jitsu, boxing and gaming, constantly seeking new ways to challenge both body and mind. He is very excited to be working with the talented students at Kilvington Grammar this year.

Battle of the Bands

This year’s Battle of the Bands is shaping up to be a great event, with several bands already registered. We're looking for record numbers to make this a truly spectacular event, so students are still strongly encouraged to register via the link on KCEE or the Battle of the Bands posters.
