Battle of the Boards
What a fabulous day for our College chess team who travelled to Pakenham on Wednesday 5th August to participate in their first Chess Tournament. The team was made up of 14 students across Year 7 to 12. They all played 7 x 30 min chess matches, one after the other, a significant mental challenge! It was an excellent effort from our students, especially as this was the first time that every member of the team had experienced an event such as this.
RESULTS:
The team finished 5th out of 10 schools.
Our top three players for the day were:
1. Jessy - Year 10
2. Harrison - Year 8
3. Eli - Year 8
Jessy won 5 of his 7 games. Finished 9th overall (out of 62 players) and was the Year 9/10 Bronze medallist. He also qualified for Regional finals.
Harrison missed out qualifying for Regional finals by 0.5 point.
Sonny and Tamenga were our equal best female players.
12 of our players won at least 2 of their 7 games . All students kept their head up all day, remaining positive and showing resilience and effort.
