5/6W

Mr Will

Welcome back

It has been lovely to welcome everyone back to 5/6W for what is shaping up to be a busy and exciting term. We are especially looking forward to Camp Rumbug next week, where students will have the chance to try new activities, build confidence and independence, and enjoy time together as a group.

In English, we will be reading The Last Bear and using it to explore persuasive language and writing. Our Inquiry unit, Our Asian Neighbours, will give students the opportunity to learn more about countries, cultures and connections within our region. In Religious Education, we will continue our Faiths of the World unit, where students will learn more about their relationship with God and the beliefs of others.

Later in the term, students will share their learning through our Travel Expo showcase. This will be a great opportunity for them to celebrate what they have learnt and present their work to others. We have already made a wonderful start and are looking forward to a positive term ahead.

Track Athletics

We had a fantastic day at Track Athletics, with so many students participating in a range of events and giving their very best. Our students achieved some wonderful results, bringing home many ribbons throughout the day. While the photos below were taken early and do not fully capture just how well our students competed, they show the excitement and spirit of the day.

We are incredibly proud of the effort, sportsmanship, and encouragement shown by all students. One of the highlights was hearing our school cheer so loudly for one another — it was clear that our team spirit stood out among the schools. Amazing work, everyone!

JPC Transition Morning

Our Grade 5 students had their first taste of high school during a transition morning at John Paul College. Students had the opportunity to experience some of what high school has to offer, including two exciting subjects: Science and Food Technology.

In Science, students explored different experiments, while in Food Technology they enjoyed making pizza muffins. We were also paired with another school for the morning, giving students a chance to meet new people and experience what it can feel like to learn alongside different students in a high school setting.

A few students shared their highlights from the morning:

“I really enjoyed Science and working with different types of chemicals. I liked the elephant toothpaste experiment and watching it get bigger.”

“My favourite part was making food like pizza muffins. I also liked the Science experiment with the fire, and I liked seeing my brother there.”

Inquiry

In Geography, students have been exploring Our Asian Neighbours, developing their understanding of different countries, cultures, and locations within our region. Recently, students have been researching a range of Asian countries and creating fact files to record key information and interesting facts. This has been a great way for students to build their knowledge, practise research skills, and discover details that may help them as they prepare for our end-of-term Travel Expo showcase.
